I was nervous watching this lesson play out, I remember my first lesson which I thought it would be easy and I'd love it. 15 mins into the lesson and I was terrified and didn't like driving at all, I felt so out of control as there was so much to think about. As someone who has now been driving for 30 years you really forget how much you have to think about as a learner .. respect to both the learner and driving instructors .. I reckon you need pretty good nerves to teach someone how to drive :-)

Watching from Bangalore, India. I enrolled in a driving school with the dream of learning to drive. The instructor promised 8 kms a day on busy roads from day one, but every day he made it challenging with his impatient attitude, especially when I made mistakes. He was often on his phone and even used me for his personal errands, which added to the frustration. Despite understanding the controls, his behavior caused unnecessary panic. Watching your video is refreshing; I appreciate how calmly you point out mistakes without yelling. It's a great video to learn from. Thank you!

A good technique that my instructor taught me was the push pull method with a steering wheel cover before I started driving it’s a great method to study as it has so many benefits which is your hands never cross 12 so if you do crash and tge air bag goes off your not going to knock all your teeth out with your watch and you keep more control of the vehicle

Just had my first lesson on Monday so it's kinda nice to see someone in the sma boat as me. Clutch was surprisingly not as difficult as what I thought it would be, though it's quite tough at times to coordinate both the steering and pedals at the same time

Great first lesson I feel! You know, as an 12+ year driver who is almost never a passenger anymore, I now have the opposite issue that Ben was having with positioning. I’m so used to the driver position that whenever I’m a passenger, I feel like the driver is far too over to the left! Nope, in fact it is me on the left 😂 Aman, I really wish I had you as an instructor! In a world where I feel drivers are getting worse (on their phones etc), I feel confident in the drivers you are making!

Love watching your content. I passed my test 38 years ago and find interesting as to the lack of use of the hand break at junctions and when pulling off. Also there seems to be a lot of hand crossing when steering, this was a big no no back in my day, but I guess this is a sign of the times. I have however found myself checking my blind spots more now since watching your vlogs :-)

Many modern cars have an anti roll back feature, so hand brake is less important.

Hello Ben and welcome, I love Aman's videos I watched all Erin's lessons. That was a really good start, it gets easier you'll get a lot better. I'd give you a little tip for the steering wheel, get a Frisbee or round plastic lid off something, don't use a dinner plate Mamas tend to get upset if you drop them and break them! Practice passing the whatever in your hands, ps don't use a wooden chopping board either, they hurt if you drop them and hit your feet! Looking forward to your next video.

Interesting that you teach students to clutch before brake, coming to a stop. In Queensland, we are incredibly struct on habits that lead to clutch coasting when travelling to a stop.

Ben - besides having a great first name - you did really well. Coordinating steering, brakes, clutch and accelerator (plus wipers and indicators) is no easy task for the first time, but you (mostly) did it pretty well. My daughter just started driving too but in an automatic so a bit easier. Aman is a great instructor so you're in good hands. btw, did anyone notice at 28:56 - the lady crossing the road - do not do what she did here over here in Australia (or in the UK, probably)! She just walked out without looking right to see if anyone was turning into the road! Crazy!

Hearing you make a point of the heel off the carpet was interesting. I found during my learner period with instructor that pivoting the heel on the floor gave for better control and clutch feel. Both for the instructor's and my first car. However with my new car (second) it doesn't feel comfortable as the pedals are floor mounted rather than top.

One thing I will say about footwear is I found it very hard to drive in running shoes (still do) as the bite point requires delicate balance particularly in many newer cars that have a stiffer clutch. I found it far easier to wear flat shoes with not much sole/heel on the bottom, you can really feel the pedals better and you tend to not apply too much pressure. PS Well done Ben on your first lesson. Trust me everything feels far more natural once you get into the swing of it, that first drive is always very weird feeling.

I come across this channel quite often and wonder why learner drivers are no longer taught to give a toot of the horn when passing a parked bus and at other appropriate moments. I am often driving and notice people just about to step off of the kerb, usually, gazing at their phones, and I use the horn just to alert them to my presence. Using the horn seems to be a "dying art". Further, I am a member of the IAM and woùld advise all new drivers to take the IAM course to hone their skills.

I wonder if he plays driving games on a steering wheel at home? The way he crosses his hands makes me think he does. After learning to drive myself, you realise you have less control crossing your hands. Reaching over and crossing his hands is probably why he's over steering. If he feeds the wheel, he'll maybe feel how sensitive steering is and how little he needs to move the wheel🤷🏼♀️ Definitely has Erin's grin too! 😁
