Great video Chris. That's the way I started and I thing a lot of guys who have been doing it for years, all started. Not everyone has thousands to spend on the latest new money toy and have someone take them and put then right on the fish. You get to enjoy it more, when you had to put in time and effort to learn all the things related. Surf launch and landing. Kayak control and safety. Then the last part finding the fish you seek and actually landing them. That part usually does not happen on your first trip. For those that it does, then you must sell your kayak, because it's all down hill from that point. Get out and get wet!

Really enjoyed this one; it triggered fond memories of my first yak, an Ocean Trident 13. Caught a lot of fish on that. Hmmm . . . maybe I need another.

Good video. I see lots of guys who are getting into fishing just go all out and buy or finance hobies all decked out. Because everyone else does it. Im still using my ocean kayak trident 13 and a simple fish finder. Can unload and get out into the surf while some guys are still unloading their barge of a kayak. I do eventually want to get a hobie or other brand peddle kayak. Prices are going to hopefully go down because of all the competition in the peddle kayak market.

Would you recommend a certain paddle that is better than others or what did you mean when you said a good paddle?
@chrisblevinsfishing4 жыл бұрын
A good paddle is light, sized correctly, and super stiff. I have 2 paddles that I really like. First, I have Werner Shauna with fiberglass blades and a carbon shaft. I also have a full carbon Werner Ikelos. The full carbon is like half the weight and double the price. Full carbon is amazing but its expensive. Find a paddle that has at least a carbon shaft. Also, make sure the paddle is the right length for your body type and boat type. Probably a 230cm is a safe bet for most fishing kayaks. If you have a freakishly wide boat or a super high seat, or you're really tall, maybe bump that up to a 240 or 250. Blade shape depends on your paddling style low angle vs high angle. If you want a simple answer, get a Werner. Disclaimer, I am not sponsored by them although I wish I was.

south La Jolla shores beach is where lots of kayakers launch
@chrisblevinsfishing4 жыл бұрын
Its about 15 minutes paddling to get outside the reserve if you go due west from the launch. As Ad said, the launch spot is no secret. Its the same spot all the rental kayaks in la jolla launch from. Google La Jolla shores boat launch. Thanks for watching Jo!

Has anyone taken a ascend 128t out on the ocean before? How did it handle?
@chrisblevinsfishing4 жыл бұрын
I personally have not but the general rule is 12' is the minimum for la jolla. Just pack light on the first few trips to get a feel for the swells and try to go on a day when the surf isn't too big.
