I found out the hard way about one of the uses for the circuit breaker panels: If you remove a UCC from a port without turning off the relevant circuit breaker, it'll short out and trip several breakers, damaging the UCC's attached to any other tripped breakers. That's how I went from only needing to replace one UCC to instead needing to replace three.

one crasy thing I found is that you can refresh shops items by simply reloading the game, saving right in front of dock port before docking. thats how you can get items that you need in systems where they are cheap

Currently you can also switch off the exterior lights... they dont do much anyway. Also if you run mag lock/ core with one empty battery in it the battery that is used draws the same power as if you use 2 batteries: save halve the battery power. If you have a just-in-time delivery and need to wait, you can unhitch the load to save MAG battery. And then you can dock and do your buisness (shop/select new job/repair) while waiting. The suit charging takes a lot of power, so you can pull the fuse and charge it while docked only, but i would always keep some energy/oxy in the suit as its a live saver if you get a leak.

I also found that the learning curve can be overcome in the first few hours. I did custom difficulty with everything on the easiest settings until I learned the systems; much less frustrating. The highways are clutch! I’ve found them faster than getting through debris fields safely - going 150 mph instead of 60 makes up for their roundabout routes even when you avoid damage. Battery Maximization: I also turn off the breaker for the suit charger when it’s full, and the maglock when I’m bobcatting; I don’t typically remember to turn off the oxygen unless I’m in my suit and getting a lot of salvage, nor do I remember to turn off the heater when I’m in a warm system, but those can also help. I do remember to turn off my headlights when docked, but forgetting to turn them back on when hauling will be considered “reckless driving.” Containers are clutch to avoid damaging stuff when swapping the grav field stuff, got to remember to turn off the breaker BEFORE changing any ECCs. Note: that the ECC below the battery is in a different breaker box because it’s a different system (Climate, not Oxygen like the battery in the hatch above it!) Running more air filters at once (3-4) massively increases how long they last. Tip 7, I’d stumbled on the first bit, but hadn’t thought of the second with the doubles - great stuff! Tips 8 and 9 took me too long to figure out. Tip 10 shouldn’t be nerfed IMHO because a real trucker would have bungees or straps - it’s like driving a camper or boat, you’d secure everything IRL. IF it gets nerfed they need to add straps you can buy or something. Good bonus tip, it’s saved my bacon a few times, I do that and flip off the breaker sometimes, too.

Just fyi, the suit system doesn't use power when the suit is full, and your maglock uses the least amount of energy, though turning off will save battery, true. Putting everything in crates and opening them on the shelves will jam them in place so you can turn off your gravity, though. Grav burns the most energy.

@@megamagnet1good points. Yup, the drain rate percentages under the battery remaining % don’t update very fast so I’d missed things like that the suit only drains it when recharging. Good to mention opening the lids explicitly; if I’d thought to watch more vids like this I’d have saved a bit of headache with that. It would suck if they nerfed that - way less immersive. Damaged goods seem to sell for less - and they damage pretty easily with the grav off, it doesn’t always need to be off, and the maglock off is a little extreme except on the hardest difficulty. I use the cardboard boxes when I can, then upgrade to the bigger crates, or just buy whatever’s available that won’t put my cab overweight. It does seem a little weird that they weigh at all, and in particular, that cab freight is an issue; I guess the headcannon is that if you haven’t got the certifications / experience it’s less safe/ harder to control the inertia with greater mass? It just feels less sim and more game-y. I miss closing the curtains and putting stuff on the beds. I’d like a sleep function, even if it’s a first-person sideways cam in the bed, just watching a clock for the just-in-time jobs. I’d actually love that and a sleep function where you could set an alarm; they already have a blinking animation…. I hope they do bigger updates/ dlc than just the cosmetic pack, although more of those would also be cool. Anyway, thanks for the tips. Keep on truckin’

I just started playing this. About the air filters, I just made it in time to a shop that had some but I didn't have the funds! Turns out the bank gives you up to 5k credit at least on my difficulty 😁

You do get to go into debt. You just have to be careful, because it'll get to a point where the bank will give you a few days to pay it back. If you don't, they'll take your truck and game over!

Helpful stuff, thanks. Quick question about the items you start with.. you mention “of course the fuel canister you need”. How do you use it? You actually refuel at petrol stations and My initial thought was that this canister might be spare for emergencies somehow. But I couldn’t see how and eventually decided it must just be another commodity after all, so I sold it.

I know that in the demo, you could take the jerry can outside and manually fuel your truck (from underneath the truck from memory).

According to the manual you can still use it as emergency fuel, I haven’t tried it yet. I’m planning another video as soon as I get enough ideas. I’ll add this one

Fuel intake is at the bottom between engines. You can go out with can and refuel.

I think it depends of condition of gravity's UCC - the worse it gets - more power drains

The amount of things in your cargo hold, afaik. Also, it gives different readouts based on the size of your batteries, from what I've seen with the core systems and maglocks, though that might be a bug.

@@megamagnet1 It's not a bug, a larger battery loses the same charge points over an hour, but that is a smaller percentage of the battery itself, so the display screen is going to show a lower % drain. For example Mario saying sometimes it's 64% and sometimes it's 128%, that's just the difference between the small battery and the largest.

if you get stuck in the truck in the open without fuel and no fuel cans, no obvious way of doing anything. other than reloading a save.

@@ancienthare yes stuck without any fuel and fuel cans. normally you get towed if you run out of oxygen. radio atm does not have the option to call for a tow. I have a video episode of the game play that includes that in the end. I think it will be named Star Trucker (PC) E1.15.

Pull into the fuel station. Once the barrier turns green, stop your truck completely. Then a screen will pop up allowing you to fill up

Why in the hell is there no net for your truck cargo so if the gravity goes it doesn't fly around and get damaged. You'd think you could buy one or something. All ships have tie downs for cargo, why was this left out. It's annoying having to put stuff back too after loss of gravity

It does get aggravating! Especially when I get stuff from beacons and I have nowhere to store it, so it gets damaged. Then I can only sell it for next to nothing. Hopefully it’s added in a future update 🤞
