Hey there, fellow channa enthusiasts! Welcome back to our channel. Today, we've got a simple and direct guide on how to set up and train your Channa, or snakehead fish, for a happy and stress-free aquarium experience. Let's dive right in!
[Step 1 - Setup]
First things first, when setting up your Channa's tank, avoid using decorations, wood, or plants. These can make your fish hide and hinder their training progress. Also, decrease or remove waterflow to prevent stressing your Channa with vibrations. A calm environment is key!
[Step 2 - Water Level]
Maintain the water level at about half the tank's capacity or 2 to 3 times the size of your fish. Remember, Channa are predator fish and feel more at home in smaller volumes. This helps them adapt faster and establishes their territory.
[Step 3 - Oxygen]
Channa have a special organ called the labyrinth, allowing them to breathe air from the water's surface. To reduce stress, keep the water level low for new fish, so they can easily reach the surface for air. Happy fish, happy life!
[Step 4 - Acclimation]
Take your time with acclimation; it's super crucial! Avoid sudden temperature changes, as they can shock your fish and make training take longer. Gradually acclimate them to their new environment for a smooth transition.
[Step 5 - Feeding and Training]
In the first few days, focus on training their minds rather than their colors or flaring. Feed them live food, like mealworms (easy to handle and keep). Drop a worm in the tank, and if they eat it, give them one more. Twice a day for 2 to 3 days, keep doing this to familiarize them with their new diet.
Whenever it's feeding time, show them the worm first. Once they get comfortable with your hand and associate it with food, they'll be excited whenever you approach the tank. This builds trust and makes training a breeze!
[Conclusion]
There you have it, a straightforward guide to setting up and training your Channa or snakehead fish. Remember, a stress-free environment and patient training are the keys to success.

What is your tank setup? Perhaps he's still acclimating. You may want to give it some time to get used to its new environment.

Thanks a lot for this video I got some answers to some of my questions ! I recently got a Channa Andrao or Bleheri idk because the seller didn't either, someone dumped 2 smal channas in the pet shop aquarium and so I bought one very cheap as the seller is my friend. And my Channa was very stressed because the aquarium where it was dumped in was not prepared for channas and now that I got it since 3/4 days I almost never see it as he always hide under leaves, plants and rocks. I made a biotop aquarium with a lot of tanins. I was wondering if it's possible that he got caught in the wild and brought alive to sell which could explain shyness but also how can I train him to feed him by hand or any live food as he just always hide? How can I make him go out of his hiding place without breaking apart the hardscape ? It's a very lowtech tank with low filtration, nitrites and nitrates are almost none but I m almost sure if I break the hard scape the nitrites is going to kill him... please help buddy it's my first Channa 🙏
