Wonderfully calm, structured and explained without any self-expression! Quite different from what is unfortunately often the case. Excellent! Best regards! Marc

I never considered where my pick should rest and I have had it in the up position, not in between the strings. That’s great advice to give. I also hold it the way you said not to so I’m going to try it your way. It’s easier your way.

I wish I found your channel sooner. Saw just a few videos so far but they were super helpful and informative compared to most vids on the same topics. Great explanations and no nonsense, love it!

Ok I’m not holding the pick that way. Great presentation! I like the concept of practicing the fast moves slowly to train the Dog brain.

Can you make video about picking hand contact with the bridge of the guitar (in general). Like should we anchor palm somewhere or should it glide etc. i fell like i cannot develop muscle memory for picking because of that. love your work, have learned a lot from your videos!

Getting into the habit of resting the pick in the trenches has really helped clean up other aspects of my guitar playing. Not quite ready to tackle sweep picking but I’ve adapted that specific technique from you and it really does help. Thanks Tom!

But lets say you are picking on the b string and want to start playing on the low e wouldnt that unneccessarily slow down your playing having to pull the pick out of the trench to get to the low e? It seems like keeping it there is only effective for playing strings that are next to where your pick is resting which doesnt seem very practical or efficient. I could be wrong let me know

PLEASE HELP I CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO ONLY PLAY THE TOP AND BOTTOM NOTES OF THE ARPEGGIO ONCE WITHOUT LIFTING UP MY PICK!!! Also lifting my finger off the string I had just played just makes the open string ring out???

I've been doing it wrong for 10 years, thank you sir.

I face a lot of resistance holding the pick like that. Basically, I lose a lot of strength when down picking or tremolo picking. Is that technique only for playing leads?

Really great breakdown of technique. This just need rehearsing and rehearsing, and being critical and checking the technique not to fall down to bad techniques again. I really endorse Tom Hess lessons for anyone who seriously want to learn to master guitar.

When I do the pinch grip while sweep picking and trying to mute with my thumb, my thumb just ends up hitting the string after I play it which causes it to be muted... Im a left handed player. Could this be a factor in what is causes this problem?

Is it my wrist angle or something else I'm doing? Trying to keep the guitar pick in the trenches...but the knuckle of my picking thumb ends up muting the string I'm trying to pick or sweep pick. Rather than mute the adjacent string

Great tutorial but for future exercises I would prefer the demonstrations be done without gain/ distortion. It can make sweep picking sound better even when there is uneven attack across the strings. A clean tone is unforgiving and will help beginners hear when their technique is uneven.
