I’m just trying to get started with this and even though this is 6+ years old, and maybe it’s done in your bedroom, but this has, by far, helped me get started and actually moving forward. Like basketball, if you don’t know how to dribble, or pass, forget about making a basket. Sorry to ramble. These basics are a great foundation for building the dexterity and muscle memory to do even the basic tricks. Thanks for sharing. 🎉

I know I'm a bit late on this, and that other people have probably already said the same thing, but I think the reason that some people find slips rather difficult is because if you have a slippery string, then the slip puts it in the perfect position and gives to the right momentum to let it slip between and off your fingers, causing it to launch forwards to god knows where. But take that as a guess from someone who started learning the art of Begleri less than a week ago, so there's a good chance I'm wrong. Edit: After some thought, I realize that the weight of your beads on your Begleri would also have a big impact on if it slips out of your hand or not. But again, I could be wrong.

Focus in keeping your fingers pressed together, also helps the closer the begleri is to the start of your finger. Like the closer the ball is to your knuckle it will be easier rather the closer it is to the end of your finger it will be harder Also this is only helpful if you find your begkeri flying out of your hand, its probably better practice to hold it closer to your finger tips but if you keep dropping your begleri this should help

I think what's making slips difficult for me is the angle my fingers are at compared to my palm. Showing grips is often done with a flat palm, but when slinging you actually bring your straight fingers in towards your palm, so that your fingers and palm make an ~90 degree angle. When you try and slip, If you make a "fist" with a flat palm your grip does a full 180 and the string wraps around your palm. If your fingers are already at 90 degrees your grip only moves 90 degrees and the string spins smoothly past your knuckles.

The way you curl your pinkie in, while using mid grip is supposed to be something that people can't do, the tendons in your ring and pinkie are (supposed to be) linked... How's it done for the majority of people?
@musclebones4 жыл бұрын
The tendons are linked, but you can still gently pull the pinky in by itself. The more bent the ring finger is when doing this the easier it is. Over time you can move the pinky almost all the way to the palm before the ring finger moves. The key is to keep your hand as relaxed as possible and not to force the motions - it should never hurt! If it's uncomfortable or painful move on to some different motions for a while and then come back and try again

Nice video man, I'm just getting started with begleri and I see that for some moves like rebounds for example people tend to have there fingers facing forwards and the begleri spinning around them. But for other moves I see poeple have there fingers facing either right or left and the begleri is spinning towards and away from them if you know what I mean. Is one way better because I can't see how you can have flow when your having to change the axel the begleri is spinning on? and which way should I learn first? Thanks

Does the string have much to do with learning? Mine is basically 550 cord and it seems like it's too bulky, especially because I've got hands on the smaller size.
@shib27797 жыл бұрын
How do you not murder your knuckles when using the top grip? It hits against the back of my hand. The length of my begleri is 6 inches and my palm is 4 inches. Should I be using a longer or shorter length?
@musclebones7 жыл бұрын
your length sounds fine. if by top grip you mean between your thumb and palm or thumb and index finger, it is a bit difficult to cradle the momentum since you can't bounce your fingers off the string. that's why I deliberately recommend the first thing to learn should be high grip/index and middle finger wraps rebounds and slips. so what I would recommend for top grip though is to go as slow as you can, and sort of "stall" the bead where you would change directions, just let it gently stop on your hand, not whack it full force back and forth. it'll help you develop more control in the long run and save on pain. playing with begleri properly should never hurt
@shib27797 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick reply! But sorry. I thought my palm was a lot larger than it is. My palm is around 3 and a half inches, but my index to my pinky with all my fingers stretched out is 6 inches. Should I change my string length? Sorry for the mistake.
@musclebones7 жыл бұрын
it's all good. sounds like we have similar hands. my palm is 3.5" and I play at around 6". It's not important to have a perfect length starting out, as all the basics can be learned at any length. you'll know if you need to adjust the length when you reach rolls/gap transfers/springs level. until then just play with what you've got and focus on clean and precise technique. if you've got more questions dm me on instagram I'm quicker to respond there

Call me a wimp, but practicing the grip transfers makes my joints hurt!
@musclebones6 жыл бұрын
It really depends, anyone learning anything will take varying amounts of time. The key is not to focus on the time investment and focus on where you started, where you are, and where you want to be. If you're moving along in that way, then you're progressing and it doesn't matter if it takes two hours or two weeks or two years. Something to keep in mind moving forward. As for your joints hurting, make sure to massage your hands and take breaks. Begleri can cause strain because you move your hands in ways you normally wouldn't and you need to get used to it a bit

9:42 How do you even do that, bending the pinky while the ring finger is straight? XD When fixing my ring finger in the straight position I have no control over my pinky. Am I missing muscles, the proper neurological wiring or are my tendons to blame? The last two are theoretically fixable.

That is a good idea, but I can't think of any new combos that I haven't already gone over in other videos. I'll keep that in mind and try to think of some new ones. In the meantime check out my "spring" video, which has three combos, and my "piano" concept video, which has three combos as well.
