Top tip: Buy stuff that you really love, don't set out on just buying every single anime evar because it's just money wasted. Nowadays, if a show is licensed the cheaper prices are around 50 bucks, so choose wisely. Lots even go for 100+, just make sure you know you adore the anime before just dropping money. Dropping a hundred bucks for a box set of something you only kinda like is a waste for the other show you love to death for the same price. Also, if the DVDs are from Malaysia, ABORT.

Good video. I agree with everything you said. I used to buy those wire dvd racks myself, but they don't hold much and I had to keep buying more of them. Nowadays, I use plastic totes to store my dvds and its very convenient because the totes I get are very wide and long but shallow, so I can see all of the dvds when I open the lid. Each tote holds 100 dvds. That seems to be perfect for me personally.

One of the main reasons why I joined the navy was to buy anime related material. Whether it be figurines, blu-rays, dakimakuras, all the shirts/jackets Facebook keeps advertising on my wall, nendroids, Miku concerts in new York(was amazing!) All which, by my estimate, cost me about 2500 dollars. But like you said, that was all throughout the year over been in. Every time I go to the mall, I always tell myself not to look at the anime section of f.y.e., and yet I always get a manga or two at books a million and have yet to read any of them. But every single piece adds to my satisfaction and happiness. One day I would love to have a collection of your magnitude, only thing is I've been mainly collecting recently made titles, since I've only been watching anime for 3 years now. One thing I learned from collecting anime is that a shelf is never too big. Well now my shelf is full and need to buy a second shelf.

I really like your advice. I too am a fan of black shelves for DVDs, books and my beloved vinyl record collection. And for my toy collections, I have white shelves, cos they are bright, it allows the toys to be really visible, but it depends on what types of collections people have, cos black looks good for some toys too. And if you need to later buy more shelves, it's easier to get those colors than to find the right timber tone. Neutral colors also seam timeless. And for anyone who is near an Ikea store, they have awesome shelves, that's where I get most of mine and if the same line stays in stock, then you can more of the same shelves. And like Bob says, definitely bring someone shopping with you to carry them. You have an impressive collection by the way and it was cool hearing some of your stories on your dedication to get some series.

I should also stress this too depending on who this may concern, if you happen to find yourself pushing past a breaking point of a healthy pace in building a collection, do not feel ashamed to sell what you own if it means keeping you in financial stability until you're ready to try again. I'm proud of my sizable collection, but I'm man enough to admit I went too far in the span of a year compared to what I could handle so be sure to consider priorities beforehand just in case.

I said "why not try since the only other sub copy is uber rare + expensive", I cried, too ashamed to look at it and resumed my fan subs) And my Manga collection... -Vinland Saga omnibus 1+2, also Japanese vol. 1-5. Still waiting for new scans... -Vagabond omnibus 1 -Full Metal Panic! 1-9 complete -Great Teacher Onizuka 1-7 -Naruto 6-8,10,12 (plan to start collection this summer) -Gantz 1 and 2 (plan to stop at 8) -Drifters vol.1 -Kingdom Hearts vol. 1+2 Pre-ordering: Your Lie in April (Just ordered the OST) When I get a ps3 I plan to get these on Blu Ray: -Intrigue in the Bakumatsu -Angel Beats -FMP -Gintama the Movie -Naruto Ship: Bonds -Redline

I have started my anime collection for a few years now. Anime has been something I have been into since I was young and I recently started collecting it. Right now I am collecting Studio Ghibli movies. I have a lot of them but I am still trying to find Princesses Mononoke which is what introduced to me to Ghibli. That one and Castle in the Sky, Narcissa of the Valley of the Wind and Spirited Away were the movies that when ever I saw them at my local library I would rent in VHC XD Also, I'm collecting both InuYasha which is the anime that made me an otaku and Sailor Moon which I remember coming home from school and catching the last 10 minutes of. I love having my own copies because every time I watch it, I notice something a character said or did that I never noticed the first time I saw it. Plus, streaming anime is a pain in the ass.

Anime is pretty expensive in Norway and so is manga, If you're buying something in store check out Ebay/amazon first, as you can come out with a better deal (example: FMA:B goes for 130$ in store, but on ebay you can currently get it for less than 100$ (including shipping). Even small differences like 5$ will be signifigant in the long run. I would also recommend that you get a decent paying job before starting your collection. I've been collecting for almost 11 years and I have around 150 DVD/Blu-ray's and close to 600 volumes of manga, and in the beginning I would have never gotten anywhere without my part-time job at a local supermarket.

The reason why I love it, is somewhat embarrassing but it means a lot to me. My collection consist: DVD for each season, 2 copy of most of the manga that was publish in english, some manga publish in japanese, cards, cosplay, a button, and some figures. My goal is to get a least one figure of each characters and copy of each DVD and manga, one to use and one to keep new.

Rushing is not the way to go,just go at a slow pace and you'll have everything in no time. i still need season 2 of attack on titan and the last box set of FullMetal Alchemist

It's always good to buy DVDs/Blurays of shows you like and sometimes blind buys can be fun too. Bootlegs are tempting at times for OOP series. I remember hunting endlessly for an affordable Cardcaptor Sakura set I was always tempted to go for the Chinese bootleg thankfully NISA came through with a license rescue.
@Luis-xg7jf9 жыл бұрын
That set is also like $200 lol.
@ShadowBlazer30009 жыл бұрын
I did a recent search now I can't even find older sets, I can find a few single volumes so yeah $200 for Bluray or $153 for three DVD sets is still decent and it's a 70 episode series.
@Luis-xg7jf9 жыл бұрын
ShadowBlazer3000 Yeah, it's not that bad considering it's NISA. It could be Aniplex :/

When I first got into anime I remember going to Best Buy for the Naruto Shippuden series. I saw the disc, it was around $20 for a DVD and I was like "wow, that's pretty good for a whole season", I got it home and low and behold it was like the first 13 episodes, from then on I just watched what I could on the internet. I just don't have the money to spend $20 for 13 episodes when the series is reaching almost 400 of them, it's just too much. There are anime like Claymore or Desert Punk that I would buy if I saw it somewhere, but as Bob said those are Anime that are close to my heart so I wouldn't mind paying for it.

one thing for collecting anime oddly enough sometimes is checking at stores like Goodwill or Costco, I recently found an unopened VHS copy of Dragonball Z the Tree of Might at a small thrift store in my home town for 25 cents. Currently my collection is very small and spread across 2 houses because I'm in a complicated living situation but I would like to build a collection like yours someday, next year I plan to acquire more at Naka-kon 2016 but I will still shop until then. I always love to hit the manga section at Barnes and Noble when I get the chance. I understand what you mean about back pain too, my main income comes from loading logs onto a truck ny hand, and it kills my back. :(

I'd rather spend my money on merch. That you can't (legally) get for free. Thanks anyways for the video, Bob.

I love collecting anime and the only probably I have is shelf space. I sometimes want to buy and own different kinds of Anime but I can't since I have to be careful since I'm collection Anime like Naruto, Fairy Tail, and One Piece. Both in Anime and Manga form, One Piece is killing my space, its nearing my ceiling bit by bit and I'm really afraid that I will have to stop buying the Manga and Anime just because I won't have enough space for it and that would REALLY suck. My room is small as hell so buying a shelf is pretty much out of the question. Space for my Anime and Manga is my life struggle right now but I going to continue buying and just deal with it when the time comes I guess. People will find me dead under a huge pile of Anime and Manga before I decide to stop collecting! lol >=)

Hey man great video as usual :). Just a suggestion but I think you should advertise your Patreon at the end of your videos so more people can know what it is / that you have a patreon. I'm sure it won't bother anyone if its just like a 10 second thing every video and it would help you get more people to support your channel so you can improve your content. :D

I typically buy my manga used. I look for the cheapest one in the best condition a used book could be. I usually end up paying a couple of dollars for otherwise $13 volumes. They are in great condition too when they arrive.

The only good deals are complete collections of 12 or 24 episode anime’s under $40. Everything else in my opinion is way too expensive. I remember back in 2002-2003 they would give you 2-3 episodes for $30. I think I bought like 4 or 5 anime’s at that price and gave up on collecting. It’s an amazing hobby for upper middle class. I feel like as one gets older you realize that for $13 a month you can be subscribed to two different anime streaming platforms and just stream it on the TV. I’m also the type of person who watches a movie or anime series just once. When I was a kid I would watch stuff 4 or 5 times, but not anymore

I dont realy have an anice dvd collection I have a large folder full of torrented anime but I guess that does not count. I do however have a large game collection and wht i found out is that u need to but the game not when it's new but when it's like a 1/2 a year old and that is cuz if u still want it you will buy it and usualy play it more than if u were to buy a game just cuz it's new. I did this with Final Fantasy games( cuz they are like 30/70 chance that is good), bf3, the last of us. But the games i bought just becouse they were new or I was in the store and just saw it and bought it I ether didn't play them at all and I sold them the next day. But my proud collection is my collection of my Metal Gear solid games I have them all and I even bought a PS1 and PS2 just to play the older games( i had bouth PS1 and 2 but i sold them but I cound never get rid of the games :) ). And whenever the new one comes out I will buy a PS4 just for that. PS.: I even have a tatto of Kojima logo (fox) :) will never regret it :)
