Just to clarify: You can't annex a sector more than 2 connected sectors away from your colony. So you can't annex a sector 3 sectors away, or one that is within 2 sectors away from your colony but indirectly connected through other sectors (this may happen if there is a blocking or unclaimed sector between your colony and the sector you want to claim).

Yeah I noticed that too :( I think I turned up the desktop audio for a video that I did discussing the 100, and just turned it back down to the settings I was using on Stellaris. But it also seems like the audio from the AoWP is just louder than most other games. I'm definitely playing around with settings

The terminology Triumph chose for levels of exploitation, map resource levels etc wasn't ideal, I think that's why it's a tricky part of the game.. Also the resource system looks like SMAC and MOO 2, but doesn't always function like them, which threw me! :D Everything depends on the map, but I've started building the Central Science Lab more in my HQ these days. Boosting 25 science income up to 35 early has a big impact..

Yeah, most of the info in the earlier ones is stillvalid (like 95% of the content), but they did radically change how colonies are set and populations works relatively recently, so like maybe 60% of the points and arguments that I made are still valid. I recently a got this question on my Discord about setting up colonies, and you may find my response helpful: EZdoesit: I'm extremely new to the game (and 4x) so still learning a bunch of stuff. I had a question for you @WinSlaya does the primary resource structure of your colony get affected by the exploitations in it's annexed sectors? Also, is there anything you look for in particular when deciding to make a colony on a sector? Or are you looking at the resources in the neighboring sectors? Me: Great questions @EZdoesit 1) the central structure is not affected by the annex sectors. 2) I typically value dependable positions at first, so colonizing relatively close to your capital so that the roads can connect making it easier to group up your forces. Some sites are too good to not grab as soon as possible, like the stadium arcadium or the celestian artifact. While it is awesome to get 4 sectors all with things ike landmark or other reaourve boosting locations, that means nothing if you lose it. 3) I tend to check out what info I can get on the sectors that could eventually be connected, but that is less important than setting up territory that you can easily defend. Sometime I just send my colonized where my armies are bc I know they can get to colony quickly to defend it while get the defensive structures built. Every once in a while you will need to sit a full six stack on the colony until you have turrets, but usually I have them clear out a few locations that are a turn or two away.

How do you get extra colonists ?

When you produce enough extra food, an extra colonist will be "grown". Colonies with more colonists will require more food to grow an extra 1 population. The threshold/amount of food required to grow is shown when you hover your mouse over the population icon in the colonist tab for the colony.

How long does a typical normal difficulty game last? I think i am always trying to go to fast and i spread out TOO much

I'm about to complete a diplomacy victory around turn 100 on the normal settings. Now that I know more about the game I'm sure I can get that down closer to 70 or 80 turns. I know that you can rush a conquest victory in like 40 turns, but you kinda of need to have a super solid understanding on all of the game mechanics to do that
