The biggest issue I have is looking at everything. I think the problem stems from the fact that I only started playing 2 years ago. I know the value of mostly everything. But I get stuck on lots of items and read a lot of stuff, because I don’t know if I’ve missed something from all the previous iterations of the game, that could be potentially valuable. And I feel like a lot of guides currently are made with assumed knowledge of a lot of the previous stuff that happened in the game. Im trying really hard to break that habit. I also come from a casual console background until I could afford a PC, so I think it’s partly in my blood lol. Loved this video though sub, definitely is going to help me a lot. Thanks :)

I'm happy that I figured out my leybinds fairly early on in playing PoE. Primary skill on R, secondary on E, primary/spammable movement skill on Q, secondary/blink movement skill on a mouse button. If I need more active skills/buffs they go on W, T, and right click. I personally have always hated the thought of having right click be my primary skill, it never felt natural or comfortable.

I was going to edit this but I got a heart so now it's a reply! 100% on only doing content you're specced for. Just today I decided to pull the trigger and unspec out of everything that isn't Alva, expeditions, altars, and the one lab node. Best decision I've made. I don't interact with rippy essences, no random oneshots from harby packs, no rituals to keep me in place for minutes for mediocre rewards. I'm bulk buying Alva sextants and spamming temples. I've only made one temple that doesn't have an equipment and/or gem double corrupt, and those that don't I just run myself and book it to the apex. Got a 1.3 div rarity string of servitude off that temple lol. But temples are consistent money every 4 maps, expeditions will give logbooks fairly often that are worth a bit, and you can skip the lab trials that don't award an improved offering. For those that do, they're maybe 2 minutes long that can get you an offering worth 40c to a divine. And of course constantly getting eldritch currency and working towards a nice 130-140c invitation

thanks, this is definitely useful. Before every league start, I re-do my filterblade from scratch using the very strict template as a starting point. But I end up showing poor stuff that's useful the first few days, and then just forget to re-tweak my filter throughout the league. I made about 10 divines yesterday, and if I'd watched this and pruned my filter before the session, it probably could have been double haha!

Hey Subtractem. I am loving all of your recent videos! This one is going into my favorite videos. I still consider myself a beginner. Hopefully you can answer a few questions for me: - I'm fully specced into expedition and forcing it through cheap scarabs. Is it perfectly natural to spend much more time per map than the 2.5 minutes conservative baseline you showed? - For those who are still quite lagging in terms of progression this league (me!), would you recommend dropping down below T14s if it makes mapping much faster?
@subtractem
@subtractem 2 жыл бұрын
- Expedition definitely will add quite a bit. It is worth to reflect a bit on your approach to it though. For all of them quickly look for Logbooks. If not, for Rog/Gwennen I just spam V in a circle, double check that there's no mods you can't run, and kill them quickly. For Tujen/Dannig I put in a bit more more effort for quantity drops. - The tier of map is always a personal feeling based on your build. There's actually almost no difference between a T14 and T16 for just regular farming besides the ilvl of the items that drop, xp that you get, and some small other progression concerns. If you're just overall faster in T14's and just need loot/map progression there's really no downside besides not being able to use 4 voidstones.

Don't sleep on the haste aura, check it in your PoB vs any other damage aura, on some build it's a very minimal difference in dmg (2-5%) but the qol and move speed makes it feel significantly better. Plus it has a couple decent watchers eye

I looked at what it does to my evasion vs grace and didn't seriously consider it after that. But thanks for the reminder. Once I get a white socket on my helm I can flip that in instead of my offensive aura, which isn't necessary for mapping.

@@redfish337 oh yeah I wouldn't switch it out for grace/determ. For example on my LS raider it was 3ish% dps loss switching from anger to haste. I was more than happy to trade 3% dmg for attacking faster/move speed. Plus the attack speed is basically move speed if you're using whirling blades

The problem is being tanky enough. Both the corrupting fever (from grimro) and the tornado shot build and bane occultist I made have around 4000 HP and like no defenses besides 75 all res. They keep getting one shotted and they can't facetank anything at all. This slows down the mapping a lot having to use multiple portals and moving slow+shooting ahead and off screen so the stuff does not instantly kill the character. It seems like a habit with builds people suggest that are focused on farming fast that they have no tank

The definition of 'beginner' can be very relative. For me, I've played this game for 300 hours and I still feel like a 'beginner'. Yet this Beginner's Guide has stuff in it that I'm not ready yet. I've still never done a T16 map. For me, since my goals are to learn more about the game I do things a bit differently than the advice in this vid would recommend: I play every mechanic to learn what it does, I identify stuff low-value items just to test my appraisal abilities. The lootfilter optimization 'workflow' is something I'm going to start doing right away though; even just reading 'sulphur flask' and pausing to reject it is a waste of time.

Heylo! Imma follow up on the comment from the last video because.... reason? Idk, commenting is fun yo. I keep my lootfilter updated and customized, but I'm prlly gonna give it another look now (didn't know you could click on the generated sample loot in filterblade, that's kinda cool!). That said, I think my personal real issue is how much time it takes to pick up eldritch embers, which honestly are too valuable to leave on the ground. Kinda wish you could set up filters to take into account nearby items, definitely would like to see all essences when I kill an essence monster, it's just click spamming after all. I think it's important to mention that playing supper efficiently and stressfully going fast, is only annoying at first, after like 10 maps, it's gonna stop being stressful, and it's gonna become second nature. You may loose like 5-10% efficiency, but that's still an improvement over not doing things fast because it's annoying/scary/mentally blocking. As an update to the 5 minute comment from last time, I am rerolling to a stronger faster character, last one was meant to be a pseudo league start open palm IB anyways. Thanks for the video!

I only started playing Poe recently and this kind of stuff is so overwhelming, it makes me question all my decisions haha, I literally do all these einhar missions randomely when I feel like them because they are good for crafting right? (Not that I know how to craft but maybe later I will?) I do my maps in like 5-10 minutes because my build right now can't really tank too hard so if I just flamedash into a pack of monsters and I get ccd I will just die. Honestly so far I'm just picking up all the stuff that looks cool, like unique items and orbs. To be able to run maps this fast you need a good build with good items which I don't yet so I just run the maps as fast as I can right now. The big issue for me is, I have no idea what to focus on... Mining? wtf is that syndicate board anyway? crafting? maps? heists? Honestly no idea...It's too overwhelming, I don't know what will earn me the most, because some content is also just very difficult if you got a shitty build that you're still optimizing

Subtractem is usually very good at mentioning this - just do what you enjoy and progress at your own pace. Play the game the way that it is fun to you. The first few hundred hours you are gonna do a lot of "mistakes" or inefficiencies. But don't worry you'll learn things at your own pace and you will try out new content and craft new gear every now and then when a video inspires you to dive deeper. I still identify a lot of rares and like picking up all the stuff that looks cool.
@redfish337
@redfish337 2 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, you want to pick 1-3 types of content you enjoy and turn most of the other stuff off. This is pretty much for everyone, including you. If you don't know what all the content even is, this will cause the content you allow to spawn to spawn very often, so you can see if you like it in the first place. If not, then you block it and try something else. Some stuff like heist will run more or less okay without putting points into on the atlas tree. Einhar will very much appreciate if you go get "Great Migration" in the upper left corner. Probably the biggest problem with Einhar (for you) is the most important results are essentially advanced crafting methods, which makes it not a very beginner friendly thing to focus on, even if you can itemize and sell them. If you want to run the syndicate board, then you generally want "Test of Loyalty" on the right side at the very least, and probably Effective Leadership (lower right) as well. The people basically 24/7 running a single type of content will have most if not all of the nodes for that content, but you still tend to want to have at least the more important ones when you start running it somewhat casually. Still, my main suggestion is again to just shut off most content with those 10 nodes near the start of the tree. Try 2 at a time until you get used to them.

As you get specific questions you'll get answers that 'connect the dots ' as it were. Until then don't ever be made to feel like you're playing wrong. It's a long term time investment and the fun but is discovering it and learning it so just let it happen. Hope you're enjoying the game!

The item that you mentioned was 1 chaos and would never ever sell? Yeah, I sold them all the time, for 5 chaos. but it would never sell like you said if you were to price it at 1 chaos. The thing is, at 1 chaos no body bothers to sell them, so buyers will start clicking on the 2 chaos and up somebody will even ignore the 1 chaos and start at 2+, and these sell pretty fast, so there's less competition going on. I usually put mine in the 5 chaos tab and they are selling! I guess some people are impatient.

speaking off netflix and map whenever I go back to leveling my alt I press my buttons as if I was on my main and frick up my inputs on it before it clicks with me I'm on a completly diffrent charater that uses less buttons xD also 10minute act5 brutus gang who up! I like to copium say that I'm playing speudo ssf cuz I don't understand how to have money and the mythicaly rare raw divine drop is like THE jackpot for me and I spent some time thinking about where I wanna spend it type of thing. not knowing how to play the economy or sell stuff on the regular for how do you ppl say, your 10c sells here and that would ofc add up to a few hundred chaos I'd imagine but then I look at my own stash and think that 20c purchase would be kinda expensive for me and whatnot. I enjoy these videos don't get me wrong but I often feel like with any person higher on the skill ladder then me is playing a completely diffrent game that just happens to have the same name then me. idk it's just some weird dissconnect I have even while having played since a little before 3.16 launched back in std learning the ropes of the game. may all who struggle with the game have that raw drop of a high ticket item they can feel good about themselves with~ godspeed ya'll.

This kind of play style is precisely why I stopped playing trade. I just can't play inefficiently after knowing how inefficient I was playing and this kind of hyper efficient optimal playstyle, where you don't play what you like but what is the most optimal for the economy is just unfun to me. SSF takes all that pressure away and now you play the content that holds the items u need for your build.

I wonderd why its like that and I think its because I played league of legends for a long time and for some reason many movement-abilities from champions are binded to E. There is a champ called Lucian and his mobility is more or less exactly like dash in poe - and ofc its on E Guess I got it from lol

How are you able to stack so many chromes? I always run out of them and I even highlight 2x2 items which sell for one chrome - which is super anoying
@subtractem
@subtractem 2 жыл бұрын
The fact that you pick up and sell those items after the first couple days is part of the problem. Once you have about 500 chromes you should turn those items off on your filter and do content that just drops lots more raw currency. Eventually you'll have so many that you turn off that raw currency too.

@@subtractem Hm, I always start a new build and maybe even a third one after completing red maps. At that point most of the times I only have double digits of chromes. Guess I need to fix my pace. Blight and Heist should be past source for chromes I assume? Thanks for the hint btw
@redfish337
@redfish337 2 жыл бұрын
@@spitzhorneule You can do most of your "chroming" with jewellers orbs at the bench. A metric ton of jewellers drop this league. You really only need significant chromes for your 6 socket slots, and generally the 15x or 25x recipes should land those fairly fast. If you're running something super off-color, then you pretty much want to rush for Vorici to get white sockets.
@redfish337
@redfish337 2 жыл бұрын
@@spitzhorneule I don't know most item efficient way, but eg, if you want 4 blue sockets on a strength unique boots, you buy 2 sockets, then you buy 2 sockets blue for 25 chrome, then then 3 socket and 2 socket and 3 socket until it lands blue. Then you do it again for 4th socket.

good points, except you didnt calculate how much time takes you to trade some currency. Like chromatics - if you want to roll some item earlier in league, you dont gonna buy 3000 to have it solved for rest of league (simply bcz at that point you would spend most of your currency for it)... so you buy 500.. and later on you buy another lets say 1500. but this trading alone can take like 5 minutes - open website, looking for seller (i personally think its very rude to whisper 20 people and wait who invite first), moving those c in stash, waiting till they move their chromes, then trade.... the trade time is kinda hidden value. Its not worth to pickup some currency you will never use, but if you know you will buy it later on, gotta cound with trading time too. Also one point with not killing all monsters - this pretty much applies ONLY if you got build that oneshot anything. Otherwise you can easily run into issue you get 15 monsters left, but only bcz they took two hits, not one, because they were rare monsters. And this way you can miss potentially god-touched, so those 15 may worth more than rest of 500 in like 10 maps.

i really dont understand the disconnect between ggg's vision and the actual practicality of it. if we have to play like you are saying to accumulate the neccessary currency to achieve something in this game, then it is totally against what ggg is saying how to play the game. but ggg set the numbers so high that there is no room for playing it like a casual. how am i ever able to get enough currency as a casual player to craft a good item? you need thousands of a certain currency to craft for just one try.hours of gameplay to find the big drops like devines or even exalts. just a total mess in terms of "work put in" and "what you get" for it. usually you can track decisions like that to greed, but i dont even see how this is going to make them money!?!??! what is wrong with developers in the 2020's? every effin game gets destroyed by those cunts^^

so you say that 7 minutes of picking up chromes was an opportunity cost of 200chaos. today i tried to buy 300 chromes, messaged 5-6 people, no respones. upped it to 600, no response. upped it to 900, no response. asked in trade chat, no response. asked in general, still no response. i spent well over 15min sitting in my stash trying to find chromes until i finally gave up and now im still running without lifetap on my off-color needed boots. its not always as simple as "just make a single purchase and save all that time"
@subtractem

That's more about personal approach and knowing the timing of the league and desire to trade those items. I just tested really quick. I went down the line and clicked the first 10 people. Two responded. This is super quick now with the direct message feature. If you spent 15 minutes and never traded I would reassess your approach.
