Clearly you've never seen Rocky. You're suppose to walk into 1500 head shots, then break their ribs. Walk into 1500 more and land a single left hook to their head. Repeat this for 37 rounds and defeat them in the 39th round after a inspirational comeback in the 38th. Now give a speech that ends communism.

Can you do a video breaking down the jab, focusing on how to keep your head off center and/or remain defensively sound while throwing it? I feel like it only feels natural to weave right or level change downwards when throwing the orthodox jab, but I would imagine this gets predictable. Further, when and how does the triple jab work? Is there ever a good time in MMA to throw a jab with a square stance or do you always throw it bladed? How do you step with the lead leg when you throw the jab, and how do you jab punching backwards? Cheers

@knuckle-sandwichmma6813 жыл бұрын
its not rocket science. hands down leaves you more unprotected but its less tiring for the shoulders, you can play with punches from different angles, your center of gravity is lower so its easier to move and come back to the stance. all of that is harder with hands up but your defense goes 90% up and you’re more accurate with your punches for the same reason as why you’re more accurate holding rifles up against the shoulder instead of down at the waist like you see in the movies.
@lastincarnation80623 жыл бұрын
@@knuckle-sandwichmma681 I've learned a lot from your analysis! I might add that hands down fall outside the field of vision of the opponent and your punches can catch them off-guard more easily. And by keeping your hands low, it's harder for the opponent to acccurately judge the distance (by touching your gloves with theirs for example) and you can more easily do hit and run tactics. I'm sure there's more, that's just what I've learned about it so far.
@knuckle-sandwichmma6813 жыл бұрын
@@lastincarnation8062 thank you for the feedback. appriciate it. like i said punches from different angles. not sure about the distance part cuz some guys can manage distance just by the feet positioning and if your opponent keeps the guard up he can still measure with their own jab cuz its not about how far your fist is from the opponents guard but how far it is from the target which is the head but then again with hands down its easier to pull from punches which requires extremely fast reflexes and boxing IQ to recognize the signals of your opponent that they gonna throw. one thing is certain, no one should keep their hands down unless they can reduce the risk with elite footwork and headmovement

For me, sparring really helped refine these head movements. When I was straight drilling, I tended to exaggerate movements because it all just felt like choreography, and I wanted to get the motion right. But when someone was actually throwing punches at my head, that's when I realized I needed to keep the principles of bobbing and weaving but reduce movement as much as possible, i.e. what Wonderboy said about making your opponent just barely miss but still miss. So you gotta spar! Sometimes I see sparring partners bob their head one way to dodge a punch and then immediately bob the other way because that's how the drill goes. You keep doing that, you'll find a hook waiting for you on the other side! 😆
