+1 on not letting your ego keep instructors from helping you. There's always something new to learn no matter how long you've been out there!

I did my first part of first day autox without instructor or ride along. The guy next to me had an old civic that was doing really well. He insisted a ride and pointed out a lot of things i needed to change. The second ride i did everything as he said without thinking about and dropped my time a lot.

The constant learning is what has always kept me interested in this sport.

Great tips Sean! I would also like to add one thing that most people seem to forget in their first few track days - supplies for when you are not driving. Bring lots of water, food, snacks, a chair to sit in, maybe an umbrella or ez-up. Prepare as if you were going camping as the more you can relax and re-energize throughout the day, the more focused and better you'll be on track.

Great point Nate! That is definitely something that makes a big difference in your comfort during a track day.

200 tread wear tire or less, new brake fluid, good cooling system. 👌

Why so little thread? I had no idea and just curious, is it for weight reduction?
@Motown9524 жыл бұрын
Chiquicat treadwear rating is not a measure of how much tread is left. It is a rating of the lifespan of a tyre. Lower treadwear means softer compound, stickier compound or perhaps even shallower tread. It is a tyre manufacturer’s rating.

Nice timing on this video. After years of autocross I'm doing my first HPDE in April. I've been considering an oil cooler for a while and you've really convinced me, although I can't really fit an oil cooler without switching to an FMIC. Oh well. Also, thanks for mentioning harnesses without a HANS device. That's a big pet peeve of mine.

You'll have a blast. If you add a FMIC make sure you duct your radiator properly so you don't over heat. The lack of HANS device with a harness drives me crazy too.

I've heard people messing up the rotors after just one track day by using OEM pads. After four track days on stock pads my rotors are smeared, squeaking and even vibrating, so I wish I started using track pads earlier.

Every car is different, for a complete novice on their first day stock with good fluid is usually fine. Once you start going more frequently it is time to upgrade.

Would you say that fire hawk indy 500s are 2 sticky for the first track outing ?

Not at all, they would be a great tire to learn on.
