I think that Emily is going to be a great welder. To keep an arc going that long on her first try is good encouragement, Jer

The fact that Emily is so interested to learn new things around the farm and the guys are willing to take the time to teach her is pretty cool.

For your first time welding, I think she did a fantastic job. Emily did great. She runs a pretty good beat and she just keeps at it. She’ll do better and better. Emily’s doing fine.

Emily learning to weld for the first time is always difficult. Be patient it will get better.

Emily, don't get discouraged. Everything is difficult for the first time. I learned to weld in my dad's shop when I was a kid at home. He was a good and patient teacher. You're doing good. Don't give up. 👍

Emily you forgot the most important thing is safety glasses behind the helmet to protect your eyes from the sparks that go behind the helmet
@MorganOtt-ne1qjАй бұрын
Sparks that get into the helmet ricochet around and can get behind the goggles, too. I hate wearing the gloves because sparks have gotten into them and left me some interesting little dot scars. Bare handed, they bounced off.

"I could see the look through the helmet"!🤣🤣🤣👍👍 You know what the "LOOK" is...😯

I think you did good for your first time girl ! Like anything, practice makes perfect. And you didn't scream and jump back the first time it arced like a lot of women would do. So you go girl !!!
@MorganOtt-ne1qjАй бұрын
@bradchandler6967 Ahh, well. I know that same look. And it's not hidden by anything. Feel it or imagine seeing it, same thing as actually seeing it. Thanks for pointing that out, friend! 👍

@bradchandler6967 She did, indeed! 1 of my daughter's liked welding in Ag Class, but she had a great teacher.

Happy Day, Emily and Avery. Welding takes practice and patience to learn. In my opinion, the hardest welding is aluminum and stainless steel. These materials have to be very clean before you start. It is easy to blow out welding aluminum, and stainless steel is very temperamental when welding.
@kevinfrerichs8589Ай бұрын
Way to go Emily. you will be a top notch welder before you know it.
@josephchildress9651Ай бұрын
40+ years ago, I was taught to use a small cursive "e" as a welding pattern. I can also see using an "o." My son-in-law went to welding trade school. They were taught both the letter "e" and "o" depending upon the material being welded.

Hard welding is very bright. Place I worked had to double up lenses on an old fashioned helmet or it was to bright. Also it was mig and you could here the weld cracking as it cooled

when i was teaching my daughter to weld when she was a freshman in high school I blind folded her and taught to listen for the frying sound when she had the sound down then I let her see where to weld. We had the same VO-AG teacher and I knew what setting he liked to use and a 6013 rod so I told her to turn the welder up 1 setting from what the teacher said to use and she had it down that the slag would curl off the weld and told her to play dum and complain that the slag was not sticking

not bad for start,s but you need some 6011 1/8 lincoln rods they start easy will burn thru anything good rod to practice with easy to run i dont know what you have for power source but ue dc reverse if you have it then use 6010 dcreverce works best foer buildup also

emily, awesome u want to learn. my saying has always been (chic's rule). meaning u r equal to or better in everything but strength, but i've seen some really strong women out there tooo. i prefer to teach a woman to learn whatever or what i tell my grandaughter, to b my tom boy. i have patience to teach & in my eyes, all these boyz r pretty patient with u. don't ever get mad at them, they r teaching u because they believe in u. luv u all my fellow wisconsinites;

The boys threw you in the deep end Emily.. on the one hand.. there is no wrong way to hard surface.. on the other.. it is literally the hardest rod to work with.. You did remarkably well.. That stuff just doesn't penetrate like other rods.. Keeping the bead hot as you go is kinda important with that stuff in order to build it up and why the boys wanted you to slow down.. Other rods.. not nearly as fussy to lay down a bead.. However.. You will be using them to hold something together.. Kinda like a hot penetrating glue.. Getting that right is a bit of an art.. i would suggest getting used to wire feeding gate parts before trying something like that.......... Seriously tho.. Embrace the artistry of it
