I really want to go zero waste, or at least reduce my waste a lot. I've been watching so many zero waste tips videos the past couple of days it's crazy. Thanks for this video it was really helpful!

I am continuing to move toward zero waste...growing up we used cloth napkins, kitchen towels, I also carry a napkin with me...I grow many of my own veggies, and just can't believe people would buy pre-chopped veggies...also have recycled for years, and used my own cloth or canvas bags...what I am moving to are mesh bags for produce...thanks for you video!
@OceanPancake6 жыл бұрын
That's so amazing!! I think growing veggies is one of the biggest things you can do! Not only does it eliminate waste, transport, but also puts carbon back in the ground!
@rubychurch88146 жыл бұрын
The only appropriate reason i could imagine for buying pre-chopped/peeled things would be perhaps if you have some physical disability that makes it hard/painful/impossible to prepare these kinds of things on your own

I take old lace curtains and turn into produce bags. I have a dozen cloth napkins and instead of paper towels, I use kitchen tea towels, which I have about 30 as we use up to 8 a day

Bento boxes are amazing. Flour sack towels are also a great paper towel alternative. I also use my kids cloth diapers for cleaning. My oldest is 22 years old and they still are amazing for housework. Thanks for sharing.

I have watched several videos on going zero waste today cause I decided not to dump anymore waste on my mother earth. So ya I'm watching alot today for a beginner's and what I have noticed is that, besides all the great, very helpful tips, that all the environmentalist are so beautiful and have boyfriends. Like will I get prettier and find myself a boyfriend too if I go zero waste. Just wondering. 🤔

Really cute video. I have already used some of your options. I have to keep the bags in the car for grocery shopping instead of plastic. Thank you for the inspiration.

I like that these are so easy, some of these things I have already done and some other things (like the re-usable cutlery) is a really easy thing for me to buy and start using instead! Zero waste is a big commitment that I can't really make in my life right now, but if everyone did just the things you mentioned in this video that would go a long way for helping!
@gabrielle2876 жыл бұрын
Don't forget too! Places like quiktrip, racetrac, etc. Let you refill your own cup. (at qt you can get up to a gallon for 1.49!) It's also a bit cheaper since they have to pay for Less product.

Same but I’m purple!! I saw a friend had one a few years ago in school and then saw one on sale last week and went yes, I need that! Recently I’ve been looking into small changes I can make since moving abroad into a host family that produces more trash then I’m used to producing back home

I've been trying to use our reusable bags, and I recently picked up some produce bags at our grocery store. I like your idea of bringing your own tupperware to restaurants instead of styrofome. I might try that next.

Great video! I have done these swaps but I need to be better w the napkins. And I should go back to bulk buying for pasta & oatmeal. Changing from paper towels to cleaning rags has shown me how much I've wasted. Keep up the great info!

Costco has packs of 25 washcloths. Nice ones. You can get big packs of cheap ones at walmart, but not that big. Instead of napkins, kitchen towels (woven, not loopy) are great for the purpose. I should make more of an effort in zero waste-I sell used clothes on ebay and believe in the 3 R's.

awesome video :) I'm transitioning to zero waste and this video is super helpful! I can't wait to start carrying around my own silverware and napkins haha. I also try to bring tupperware with me when I go out to eat so I can bring food home in my reusable containers vs their to go containers. :)

utoobr10 the idea is to reuse old t shirts that can’t be donated. I prefer using them as cleaning rags

If you look into the type of plastic that is in the plastic containers you use, different types can be used in the microwave without releasing toxins! (since you already have them)

school restaurants use plastic silverware?? where i live uni restaurants have standard silverware/ plates
@livingunjaded7 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! I'm a commuter without a meal plan so I have to use the public cafeteria/food court...I think they use plastic because it is mainly takeout and they do not have a dishwashing station

I really like the idea of this lifestyle, but it seems to me like it's a lot of work. I will try to do at least this. Just a few questions that occured to me, please answer me if you have time. What about ice cream, do you eat that? And do you use parfume, what to do with a bottle after? What to do with food leftovers?
@livingunjaded7 жыл бұрын
Hi Andjela! This lifestyle can be a lot of work, especially when you're first starting. This is because our current economy designs things to be thrown out, so it's not always within your control to be completely "zero" waste. To answer your questions, I am still in the beginning stages myself, so I still make trash. However, yes, I do eat ice cream. Right now, I still eat it out of a container from the grocery store or get it in a cone from a place like Dairy Queen or Baskin Robins. A simple solution would be to bring a carton to a place that sells hard serve ice cream and to have them fill a container (I should really start doing this!). For perfume, if the container is glass, you could consider reusing the bottle to hold some DIY perfume--maybe made with some of your favorite essential oils--or you may be able to find a local store to fill the old container with their perfume. And food leftovers can be stored in the fridge or freezer in a reusable container. If they go bad before you can eat them, you can either start a compost, give them to a friend with a compost, or find someone at a farmer's market to give your food scraps to. If you are still interested in the zero waste lifestyle, I suggest reading Zero Waste Home by Bea Johnson--she has really mastered the lifestyle and gives incredibly detailed tips on how to start :)
