I don’t want to embarrass you but I have to say something. The world is crazy, and though you are deservedly known for your creativity and maker skills (which I admire), in my house you are much more than that. It is so powerful to see a human being be true to themselves, and smile while they work. I remember when you didn’t talk on your videos. The bravery to become present and show yourself and engage with people across the world is the best thing you’ve ever done. It is possible to be something that you want to be. It is possible to balance your life even when you have to move around to fulfill yourself. It is possible to be kind. It is possible to be energized by your own creativity and work. Thank you Laura! You’re an amazing maker, but you’re a better example of what a life can be than you realize. We love you for sharing yourself.

I love how accessible you made this with all the different tools. The bench looks great, with plenty of really tight joins, but it definitely takes function over form, making it easier for beginners like me to be inspired to build a bench for my tiny apartment!

Thank you for showing the circular saw sled/jig you made. I know your IG stories explained about it but not all new builders know that a circular saw can be adjusted. Learning is part of the process and I always enjoy when you show how you learned something new. It makes your videos really authentic and that much more enjoyable.

Nice bench! Btw, if it's that cold in the shop, the white PVA glue will not cure, and instead of turning transparent, it will turn chalky, and stay white. You might wanna use polyurethane glue (the foamy type) - that one cures with humudity instead of heat, and it will work in freezing temperatures.

Laura, this is an excellent beginner's workbench that is also very pleasing to look at with its clean lines. It is also one to which future additions could be made as funds and skills permit. The only changes that I might suggest would be to screw the front plywood top on instead of nailing so that it could be more easily replaced in the future if needed. One might also consider a small chain or rope to limit the folding top from rotating too far back such that it pulls on the hinge screws. Well done!

Great idea to create a flexible furniture piece Laura. I particularly like the hinged top - forces you to clean up and put your tools away! To increase the “nice” factor, how about dowels to cover the screw heads? Does it get a finish for durability and aesthetics? Of course, polyurethane may not set up in sub-zero conditions! Next project - shop stove!!

Very good example of how to make an unexpensive beginner's workbench that doesn't take up much space, the use of clamps instead of the traditional vises common to other workbenches are a good idea too. I loved the detail of the joints, I loved watching you make them. However, I think a beginner will hardly have the powerful and versatile tools you have, such as the nail gun, circular saw or miter saw. I think all the cuts could be made where you buy the wood or at a place like Home Depot and the assembly with glue and clamps can be made without problems.

One of these videos where I don't need the item (I made a nice bench a few years ago!) but I end up watching the whole video because it's so nicely produced :D The way you have the legs flush with the top apron and bench top for panel clamping is the stand out feature for me. Very nice indeed with simple construction processes - super.

This looks awesome. I have been looking for a good workbench for a while now, but most of them aren't as sturdy and nice-looking, and definitely don't have a place to put your tools for a 'normal' amount of money. Very cool video, this week...like always. This is a great beginner project. I generally guide beginners to build tool boxes, but after this (considering your stated prerequisites) I’m sure I’ll go with the work bench idea. I’ve helped people get started in the past by thinking of tool storage/mobility. But I always had the garage/back yard idea in mind. I’ve rarely lived in an apartment, so it didn’t really register with me as a barrier to entry. I like seeing from another perspective. Thanks!
