This is training done right. Light lose hands, no bit, rope halter, harness fitted, calm manner...I could keep going. What joy to watch. Thanks for sharing

What a beautifully handled horse. It may well be little, but the same handling and training is the same for all sizes. Size of the animal involved should never be the last resort a 'trainer' uses. All horses need confidence in their handler. This is how to do it and very well done it was! Cheers

too funny I use my ice sled from Cabelas on my horses. I will even sit in it and drive them.

Lisa de Kramer I used mine on full size too, add a 50# salt block, then maybe another. Great fun!

When do you quit with the treats?
@DonnaScarpa6 жыл бұрын
Steve Adams I fade them out as the desired behavior becomes solid. For example, if you did the abc song no one would be amazed that you knew your abc’s. I use Clickertraining principles and techniques. It is not necessary to the training but it sure speeds up the horses willingness to learn. I go slower and make progress faster with a cooperative partner horse than I would a horse in an apprehensive state of mind.

lol I am still clicking, stopping my cart and treating....8 years later, But it also helps with willingness, speed control, longer periods of faster gaiting (under saddle), because it can shape more advanced behaviors.

I want to add that there is always something to click and treat for, but once a behavior is solid, then we learn something new. A word or phrase of praise means a lot to my horses. I don’t ever stop using the principles of Clickertraining. At feeding time I kindly ask each horse by name to back up and they do. That way I can put their hay where it needs to be. With some, I have only to approach and they move back. It is a safety issue so I don’t get mugged, pushed or perhaps accidentally nipped as they dive in for the food. Years back, I had pedestals in each pen and when I came to feed each horse would be standing on their pedestal waiting. It was cute and some people thought impressive.

I once bought a goat harness made in Florida that looked a lot like this. Do you like it? Where did you order or find it?
@DonnaScarpa6 жыл бұрын
KK Icons I think I just got it from Amazon or eBay, but I’m not sure. Chimacum tack carries colored harness of much better quality. Suitable for long time use. I have goat harness but mine is black. Have trained several goats alpaca and a Tibetan yak to drive. Fun times! I love calm willing animals that can’t wait to do stuff. That is always my goal. They get a sense of pride of accomplishment, just like we would. I love working with rescues and helping them feel comfortable, doesn’t matter if they end up having a new skill or not.
