It would have been nice to watch you demonstrate with the heavier gauge wire required for that use. I have never seen that type of bench block - very interesting.

thank you for posting as a hobbyist one who has many books on silversmithing etc I never came across using the swage block for turning wire to bezel strip , thanks for mentioning it.

where can you buy the steel block and do they make different shape punch dies
@naughtydogfineartstudio79665 жыл бұрын
I can pick them up at my local Micheals arts and crafts, JoAnns, and Hobby lobby. But your stores may not carry the same products as mine. You can also go to their websites and Fire Mountain.

Oh yeah, yes you can get different shapes punches or "Dies". But you will need the die block that goes with it and those can get very expensive. You can even get custom made ones, but again those can cost you $100 or more just for one die and block.

David Theiler yeah I found that out after making the video. I’m my jewelry class in collage our teacher was very much against wire working since it was a “craft” and not fine art. I just never thought of a bench block in wire weaving turns before

@@naughtydogfineartstudio7966 Your teacher has not explored wire work, wire wrapping, and weaving. It is not a craft. Its fine jewelry and very sculptural in some cases, or very intricate in others. Your teacher needs to expand their views and not be stuck in the past. This is like saying computer graphics is not art and only pastel drawings are art as in the old cartoons vs newer Disney animated films. Both are art. Please tell your teacher I said that and to expand their horizons.

Actual demo begins at 9:00 in a 17 min video. Talk less. Do more. This is video not radio. You showed nothing besides hammering a wire. The visuals were poor too. Hold the camera steady and in focus. Demonstrate each tool clearly. Prep work is required before you make a video, don't wing it. Students are not teachers. Learn more before you teach others incorrectly.
