So many different things to think about! I thought fluttering was doing ONE thing... but I bet this all helps you get a lot more flexibility! I'll try too.....

I need to work on my "helicopter" flutter tonguing and also the relaxed one. Also, your earrings are beautiful!

Love the focused look at the differences in registers! I started out flutter tonguing with the gargling in the back of my throat but have gradually, through a lot of practice, have a kind of sloppy front flutter as well. I’m glad there is hope for people like me who couldn’t roll their r’s!

As I'm watching this video in a dance studio on BYU campus, I realized that with my mask on and the music playing, I can practice flutter tonguing and no one notices-- a blessing of masks!

I actually started laughing out loud when the prairie dogs made an appearance. On the other hand, I didn't realize there was such a significant difference in flutter tonguing technique when switching between registers! I prefer using the back of my throat in the lower register for that reason--I just didn't know that was the reason until now. Definitely something I'll be more mindful of in future practicing!

This is super helpful for Ravel’s La Valse! There’s a low scalar flutter passages and I was struggling to get the flutter to come out and then after watching this video, I realized that I was using a high register flutter and my tongue was too far forward. Thanks!

You are so entertaining, informative and just amazing! Getting off the treadmill and going to play flute right now and play a little flutter tonguing.

Agree with that!! I practise my flutter tonguing when I'm out walking and when nobody can hear me. I go up and down scales and arpeggios....

I use the back of my throat whenever flutter tonguing has come up in my repertoire. I’ve tried and watched tutorials for years but I’ve never been able to roll my r’s. Maybe someday!

Is there an audible difference between with the tongue versus the back of the throat in the lower register?

Sometimes, it helps to allow the tongue to surf---catch or ride the wave of the air.
