Behavioral transition of a fish school in a crowded environment

This film shows a study of the behavior of gregarious animals (zebrafish) immersed in a network of pillars. The school of fish retains its cohesion up to a critical pillar density. Beyond this value, when the distance between pillars becomes smaller than the social distance, the school of fish is diluted and gregarious behavior is annihilated. This study, carried out by physicists, makes it possible to analyze ethological behavior disrupted by a change of environment.
Ce film présente l’étude d’un comportement d’animaux grégaires (des poissons zèbres) que l’on immerge dans un réseau de piliers. Le banc de poissons garde sa cohésion jusqu’à une densité de piliers critique. Au-delà ce cette valeur, quand la distance entre piliers devient plus petite que la distance sociale, le banc de poissons se dilue et le comportement grégaire est annihilé. Cette étude menée par des physiciens permet d’analyser un comportement éthologique perturbé par un changement d’environnement.
