I would not recommend this job if you get overstimulated easily. I also have autism and I can’t handle it, their overstimulation/outbursts cause me to become overstimulated and burnout occurs very, very fast

I’ve been an RBT for almost three years. I love how you explained this job! I met this 8 year old who would have 20 high magnitude SIB and 50 low magnitude SIB in a day. It was a struggle bus mentality, but now he is about to go to a school setting! It wasn’t easy, but has been the most rewarding journey to be on.

I am in the transportation industry and I want to be a financial planner. I personally think knowing the behaviors of why your clients do what they do is very important and for a deeper meaning, I believe a therapist should work along side financial advisors/planners so that both their wallets and their underlining problems can be resolved.

@@SugaChellez Try working for the local public schools as an instructional aid for special needs there is always alot of need and will give ;you the experience you may need to figure out if this is the job for you for an rbt. just call the local school district to elementary and see their requierements youll do a background check and a proficiency test. hope this helps

Hello! You were the reason I became an RBT and since day one I have loved it! I first was a in-clinic RBT and now I work in a school. Because schools have so many off days iv recently been thinking of becoming an in-home RBT part time but I’m extremely scared and nervous. Although, I have a kid who is autistic. That would be the most experience I would say I have with autism. See if your surrounding public school district have opening for the school year to work in the especial education classes nas an instructional aid sub they will just ask for a background check and a profiency test . That how i started and it works for my schedule with kids in grade school hope this helps

I got hired for an ABA Therapy - BT Position at a center that I applied for on indeed with no experience in this field or prior training. They will be training me through the company/center. Is this normal or was this a once in a lifetime moment? Lol I have 8 hours of onboaring training to do this week. ABA Experience was preferred but they said they "will train motivated individuals."

This would have been me, however, I decided to check their reviews on job search sites... I know what she means by nothing is free. You will either pay for it in mental stress from the type of cases you are given or the lack of support from management depending on the company. I believe typically, the agencies providing "free" training will expect you to stay with the company for a certain length of time.

I've been in and out of a lot of jobs over the years and have not felt like I'm accomplishing anything. I have felt directionless and lost when it comes to life and often question what do I really want. I'm on the spectrum and that has created added challenges to my whole life. I have been job searching a lot and I keep seeing places looking for RBTs. I don't know if that's God trying to give me a sign that this might be worth pursuing. I'm trying to do some research and watch videos because I want to be 100% sure if I want to try this career. It sounds like it can be a tough job but also very rewarding and as someone who is on the spectrum I can understand these ASD individuals. The only main concern I have is do I have to work with young children or can I specifically work with teenagers or young adults only? I'm not the best with kids but teenagers and young adults might be better for me. Any insight will be helpful as I am trying to research and learn more anout this career.

Big question!! Can anyone help! While completing supervision hours for obtaining BCABA are you able to get paid during those supervised hours? Like as a behavioral tech or as an RBT? Or is it unpaid time that you have to figure out how to complete without making money.
