ഒന്നിൽ കൂടുതൽ തവണ വായിച്ച ഏതാനും കൃതികളിൽ ഒന്നായിരുന്നു ആടുജീവിതം. കുസൃതി നിറഞ്ഞ ഒരേയൊരു രംഗം നജീബിൻ്റെ കുട്ടിക്കാലത്തെ ആദ്യ പ്രണയവും മേരി മൈമുന എന്ന കുട്ടിയെ ഉമ്മക്ക് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതാണ്. ബാക്കിയെല്ലാം വൈകാരിക ദൃശ്യവത്കരണരംഗങ്ങളാണ്. നമ്മൾ കാണാത്ത മരുഭൂമിയുടെ സൗന്ദര്യവും , ഭയാനകവും, ആശ്ചര്യ ജനകവുമായ സൃഷ്ടി വൈഭവങ്ങൾ എന്നെ കൂടുതൽ ആകർഷിച്ചു. ഇത്തരം എത്ര നജീബ്,ഹക്കീം, ഖാദരിമാർ ഇപ്പോഴും ആടുജീവിതം നയിക്കുന്നു എന്നതും ദൈവം എന്തുകൊണ്ട് ഇത്തരം അർബാബുമാരെ ശിക്ഷിക്കുന്നില്ല എന്ന ചോദ്യവും ഉണ്ടായി.
