Tibetans in PLA may not be a threat to India now. But China is making creeping progress on this issue & India should counter this. Why not India change its decision of accepting Tibet as part of China?

Very true Information. integration of Tibetans is not happening in CHINA. i am in CHINA for 12 years., if a Tebetan come to inside CHINA., he will be looked differently. Tibetan culture is completely different from CHINA, so all these years PLA has no trust on them., it will not happen immediately also. But INDIA SHOULD have a counter mechanisms for this effect. With the help of Tibetans living in INDIA, INDIA SHOULD build up a network to provide accurate Information about PLA activities on the ground and counter them on the international venues. The biggest mistake done by our EX PM Vajpayee ji is accepting one CHINA policy. its high time, INDIA SHOULD move away from that. Also INDIA SHOULD provide credit lines for Brahmos sale for all Chinese neighbors and pursue installations on emergency basis. 🙏

As expected this information from Nitin Sir is also a detailed one with balanced analysis . The overtures towards Tibetans are obvious , the magnitude being limited due to the high suspicion among Tibetans. So far India has only morally supported tibetans to restrict any violent expressions among them. Although this may be a right long term strategy, India will have to use its imagination to provide support to Tibetans to ensure they reciprocate adequately at right moment . May be a Bharat Ratna to the great Dalai Lama can be ethical as well as politically correct step ...

The Sudden coup in Myanmar should have been viewed in the same context as the standoff in Ladakh considering it just started as the PLA disengaged from in Pangong Tso. Now that PLA is contructing infrastructure within Bhutan adjoining the Chumbi valley border with India, the dots are well connected... Not sure how come GOI was caught unaware for the 2nd time and it took them a year to confirn that the Coup was totally orchestrated with CCP support especially in UN... The China Study group should be disbanded and replaced with Army folks who have served at verious Indian boders on the ground and even in UN...

I disagree how Nitish downplays the fact that Tibetans are not converted because they "hate the Hans". Please note that Tibet is part of China since 1949. With time and no local leadership, people tend to get disillusioned and convert. Check out >> New York Police Officer Baimadajie Angwang. Tibetans are being converted as we speak, either India is ignorant about this or due to their past inaction, do not want to admit it.

Informative report. But how does Tibetan spirituality, which is part of the ethos of this community, work with China’s communist ideology, where the party and state are supreme? Nitin Gokhale mentioned that young Tibetans ( in Tibet) may not know the Dalai Lama, which seems to indicate that China is succeeding in its efforts at “Han-Izing” the Tibetans. That is a sobering thought. It may eventually cause a divide between those Tibetans who are subsumed by the dominant Han culture and those who view the community ( by those living in exile both in India and globally) as having a distinct identity, with its own culture, spirituality and language. This may well mar loyalties among them, in the event of an armed conflict between India and China. It’s exactly what the CCP would like to see: a fracticide in which the Han Chinese are no longer regarded as the invaders and oppressors. There seem strange parallels between religious conversions by Abrahamic faiths, with the erasure of indigenous cultures, and the methods of the CCP.
