I don't think greed plays a role as much codepence and low self-esteem. Plenty of men and women (mostly women are documented as doing this but Casey Anthony and Jodie Arias have their male devotees as 2 high profile examples) will seek out relationships this way for reasons I won't list out here. But if you look it up, you'll see what I'm talking about. I looked the phenomenon after my friend's jobless uneducated ex killed their newborn son. During the trial, a woman showed up and it was announced she married him and "believed" he was innocent.

On reading another story on the Pikul case, it was said Diane was a bit of a drama queen and stirred things up when she got bored or disinterested, hence the previous two divorces.
