I DID THIS! In the early 2000s I had the privilege of serving the Blue Knights as a tour volunteer 3 summers. I drove the cook's van, washed dishes, refilled the propane bottles, cleaned the cook trailer & equipment, prepped & cooked food, and served the hard-working BK members and staff on tour. It was a real blast even if there were long days, hard work, sore muscles, and poor sleep. In those days, food often came in "home portioned" size boxes. So a frequent discussion in the trailer was "how many boxes of Kraft Mac & Cheese was needed to make 160 servings? OK, 20 boxes, how much milk is needed?" Sometimes while prepping dinner, we got the message "Pack up the kitchen, schedule has changed" and the big dinner that was planned suddenly became a quickly engineered Soup & Grilled Cheese. Leftovers were always creatively re-purposed and hopefully became something new and delicious. It was all worth it to be able to see the corps progress & watch my daughter & friends perform. I highly recommend that people interested in Drum Corps volunteer to serve a nearby organization. You'll get to meet great people and see a side of the corps few non-members ever know. I'd do it again.
