I watched a video a few years ago, with the preface that layoffs for the bigger companies, were 95% profit driven. It went.... rule 1: ALWAYS INCREASE PROFITS FROM YEAR BEFORE, NO MATTER WHAT. Note, we are not talking about reinvestment, this is purely for the bosses and or shareholders own pockets. The easiest resource to sacrifice to free up money are employees. So that is what they do. It's a common practice across most 'big' companies. It is all profit driven and it is sad to hear anyone defending a business practice of half salary rehiring. Theses companies to not care we have mortgages, families, or other expenditures (America and the health care costs, yoiks). They sit happy with their multiple houses, cars, boats and whatever else our hard work has afforded them.

It's incredibly difficult to bounce back from. The only way to stay in the industry is to have multiple sources of income

@@GameDevUnchained I liked your point about gutting the creative pool in a company/game is only going to end in disaster. It is a shame these companies only can keep going because they keep finding new ways to manipulate workers into working for cheap or free, like you said with the tutorship schemes. Corporations have way too much power, and very rarely if ever get held to account. It is crazy the amount of money being made at the top. They will never cut into theri/shareholder/company profits, so they make the cuts in the employment pool. Anyway..... Side note, love the videos, thanks for making them.
