This might be my favorite video you guys have ever done. Rex is honestly such a great interviewer. The behind the scenes interviews paired with his quest to get his own distillery to that level - you can really feel his want to know as much as he can from this experience. It's honest and transparent, and just like the gentlemen at Sagamore attest, that's what people want. Thanks everyone. ❤🥃

Their Double Oak is my favorite whiskey. There may be better Rye out there,but on my fixed income, 60 bucks is near my top end. So to see the whole operation and meet the faces behind my favorite pour,10 thumbs up. You need to do more videos like this. Meaning.......going out to the distilleries and farms etc. Excellant video. Thank you.

I went to the distillery in 2019 and blasted them and almost got kicked out cause everything was out sourced and on the flight the only one I like ended up being a $90 bottle and was not worth it in my opinion but I gave it another shoot and tried the double oak rye and all I can say is wow I agree it’s probably one of the best ryes on the market and I have like 150 different bottles from bourbon to ryes to whiskey and I’ve been drinking there double oak rye just stated in the end is sep and I’m on my 4th bottle already

I’m the “rye guy” at the bars where I work. I found out about Sagmore two years ago, and it quickly became one of my favorites. Top quality stuff, and now I see why. HOWEVER, there’s one small batch rye that in my opinion clears the rest, and that rye is Cedar Ridge. I got a bottle of their first batch and immediately went back to clear out the store’s inventory. I’d love to see a tour of their facilities on this channel some day.

I visited them years ago on a business trip to Baltimore- one of the best distillery tours I’ve been on, and their tasting room is amazing. As they said this was the rye that won me over to the spirit; I was in the camp of not liking rye until I tried theirs.

Maryland: it's not a state, it's a cult. There are actually several DC/Maryland distilleries that make very solid ryes. Sagamore is probably the best known, but I'm also a big fan of Twin Valley (I helped with a tasting of their products at my synagogue this year where we usually try to highlight a different local distillery and they were sadly out of their rye, though their bourbon is fine). There's also Republic Restorative in DC, who have a really solid, slightly smokey rye (they also have a rye/bourbon blend that's very tasty). I tend to prefer scotch to rye, but I grew up drinking ryes, and it's definitely a comfort drink for me, and I love supporting local.

Don't forget Catoctin Creek out of Virginia!
@Jay-yr9oi20 күн бұрын
@@kvetcha other than their honey rye, they’re actually hard to get around me. The county runs this liquor stores, which results in somewhat limited supply (there are some CC products at some of the stores, but I’d have to drive all over the county to find which one has it at that time).

Answers that Q- what is Md style rye? It has corn in it. That means WT RB rye is Md style. Don't know if WT101 is also high corn or straight rye. In the 90s I preferred rye as it had a bite. I was not a wheated fan (MM) . Sadly, there were only 2 brands of rye in the early 90s, if memory serves. Living in SE Va we only get basic Sag rye and their DO. The DO is great. I grabbed their rum casked on a trip to Md. It was a lovely mint without rum flavor. As the bottle sat, the rum flavor became more pronounced or correctly, it finally announced itself. Sag's Amaro, if they still make it, is superb.

Being a Baltimore resident, I am spoiled with proximity to Sagamore. I only wish you guys could have experienced a Penny's Proof event before it ended last year. I highly recommend checking out their videos from the orevious events. Always a fun time, and the hospitality was on point. It was an opportunity to experience their distillate as it came of age. Knowing it wasn't ready for market yet, they allowed the local whiskey nerds to experience it anyway. Now that their distillate is 7+ years old, the event isn’t as important when you can go buy their BiB. Hopefully something takes its place since the event itself was a blast.

@squeaky_moths they got more fun every year. The first one was freezing cold and windy, so it wasn't as crowded. But the past several years I would meet up with a group around 3am to wait in line. The food trucks are great as well. Inevitably, my wife heads to the gift shop to get another candle and grabs me a bottle in bond. It's not a distillery with wasted space, it's a distillery that has created a space for the entire community. We have quite a few wonderful memories there already and look forward to making more.
