Question question: so say so you see a runway show. Or even an article of clothing in the store. What do you want to know?

How much money does a real fashion designer earns each catwalk fashion show? How rich can a fashion house designer can become? 😀😀😀

It's beautiful, but if you're not travelling like Karlie Kloss (so with a body guard and at fashion shows and stuff) you'll get talked up a lot. If you do ever go and i really recommend it! Bring dark sunglasses, a lot of patience and a dude (sounds sexist but I've found the sellers on the street annoy you less). People be trying to sell you everything and they ain't giving up easily.

"We can try to maintain Italian tradition, French tradition, but also African tradition." -- Just a gentle reminder that Africa, unlike Italy or France, is a continent with MANY different traditions. And why does Dior feel these traditions need "maintaining" - especially by an inaccessible luxury fashion brand with primarily white clientele?
@TheSilentMONARCHY5 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree that saying “Africa” generalized a continent with many unique traditions. However, I think it’s quite wonderful that Dior is taking an interest in tradition with African roots and helping “maintain” it. Ultimately Dior is a very famous and well known fashion brand. It has a large sphere of influence compared to local designers (from Africa) By showcasing African prints and design methods, it introduces people in the west (and East... I’d argue there are as many Asians who are Dior clients as there are Caucasians) to traditional African prints. Admittedly I did not know much about traditional print methods from any part of Africa as I was unfortunately never exposed to it, but having seen it now, I think it’s gorgeous and would love to learn more about it. Something that was mentioned in the video as well was that people thought African prints were “cheap” because of fake wax. I think it’s a positive thing that Dior is showcasing how valuable real wax cloth is... they are helping spread the word to the rest of the world that African fashion is not simple or cheap. Ultimately, I think that what Dior is doing positive... But that’s just what I think :)
@GRRiTSELeNA5 жыл бұрын
I wonder, though, why we assume that African fabrics are cheap? How were those beliefs pervaded in the first place? And why does it take a Western luxury fashion brand charging thousands of dollars to show us that these processes are valuable? Will anyone now seek out African designers and pay Dior-level prices for their work? I think this points to a much deeper issue with the differential value we place on something or someone depending on where it comes from. While I agree that Dior has a powerful sphere of influence, separating the art from those who actually make the art is not the way to spread awareness to the rest of the world. Perhaps providing a platform to African designers would be a more meaningful way to spread global appreciation if that is really and truly Dior's motivation. For example, there are a number of great organizations in Peru that work with Andean textile designers and communities to provide them with a platform to showcase their work and charge a premium for what they make. Finally, Africa is a huge continent and variations of these fabrics have been worn by thousands of people every single day for years. I definitely find it upsetting that the absence of these prints in Western fashion is somehow evidence that they're fragile and need to be "maintained" or appreciated. I totally hear your arguments and I understand what Dior think it's trying to do with this, but I think there are some deeper issues at play here. Anyway, thank you thank you for your response! =)

Use of the blanket 'African' term once again. Chiuri seems to focus on the kudos that her patronising use of fabrics will bring her rather than focussing on a particular place or individuals. (Also the wax print process was originally Dutch and offloaded onto centres in Africa because the Dutch couldn't sell it elsewhere).
@high_stakestable39435 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that Dutch observation - it's partly because they (lack assignment value) where other ... could be ... scentimental OR organize and value lineage/genetic/God++ ... differently. ... it could be really simply - I helped inspire the Louis perfume 3-tone Kloss wears - I like the grey and pink/white flowers and airplane tire SCREACHING on the ground ... for the #1 Fan ... of the man, Kloss! ... not very #arkain-sauce! In 4:24, Kloss and Taylor did something I could never even dream of doing ... wasting 4 seconds. It's *02!

The wax print process is originated from Indonesia kzbin.info/www/bejne/rarPiIyJfdCtpbM We called it batik. The print are handrawn by the artist. The dutch then industrialized the process to mass produced. Africa import this technique. Sorry for my bad english

A collection about Africa being presented by a white model opening the show Seriously? again colonialism the vibe I get
@wisteriamoonseed95125 жыл бұрын
Just like to say there are many white and bi racial people who consider themselves African. Obviously she isn't African but to say just because they aren't black they can't appreciate African fashion is a discredit to African designers. It works the same way if you said just because someone is black they can't design french or American fashion. People should be able to take inspiration from any culture. And it sounds like she is trying to also educate people about African fashion.
@MM-iu8fk5 жыл бұрын
@@wisteriamoonseed9512 it's about the model presenting the show for me and know that I do not want to see a white person who stormed into South Africa 1-day maybe being considered African in general for me it's not about the country I believe the world is our home but I do not see this image in this collection!
