i'm doing a season by season retrospective, and i want to talk about Mr. Hartnell once i finish season 4, and the thing that worries me most is that I won't do it well enough. I know so many who love the series and i wanted to start from the beginning and make a guide for the long lasting things (like how Daleks started out in the second/third arc) now that i'm past the first regeneration i want to cover the character and the actor (i call myself the character investigator) I love this show, and my small series is what i can bring to the table for the next generation of fans.

It was perfect, the way they portrayed the struggle that all of these people had to go through in order to create such an amazing work of TV magic. Everything from the adorable relationship between Hartnell and his grandaughter, the show gaining its first firm footing with British kids, and Verity herself, unwilling to let the show fail without a fair shot, was very nicely conveyed. Matt Smith at the end was a beautiful touch, as was the 10th-Doctor-reminiscent 'I don't want to go' line when Hartnell finally moves on from the iconic role he helped to create. Seems all Time Lords feel that way at the end, don't they? The script was very well written, too.

This one came on here in Australia after the day of the Doctor and fitted in really well. I find it interesting that William Hartnell was the man they described for Dr Who, old stern man that people respected and a hint of magic. Having been born after the original show's run came to an end my only experiance with doctor who had been re-runs on UKTV gold and the videos the small number of videos that we had around the house, one of those being a box-set involving 2 omnibuses with the Daleks. The first one of the 2 that i watched was Sylvester Mccoys (7) "rememberence of the daleks", but the other one was William Hartnells "the chase". Watching this just brought back all those memories of watching the hartnell run, and seeing how much he embraced the role (knowing how the set should be run better than the replacement producer and technician was fun) and how much fun he was having doing it. I got teary eyed at the end, knowing the events that were going to happen of course, but it just hit it home. Hartnell made the doctor, and the doctor saved him. The scene at the end with the "i don't want to go" (a reference to numero 10-ant) just hit me. The cast chosen for this docudrama were perfect and i aplaude you all. This was truly a laboure of love for the doctor, and it deffinantly shows. :)

I wish the producers at BBC would do the series like this An Adventure in Space and Time, with actors that look like the original cast . Going retro could take the show into a different adventure .

David Bradley is a fitting actor to take over the role of the First Doctor. Hope to see him in the future as the First Doctor.

The whole production was a labour of love from start to finish. The actors were wonderful and the attention to detail was so exact. That console room set actually looked better than the original and I'd love to know which broadcast museum they hauled all that antique equipment out of for this film. An excellent celebration of the programme's legacy. Especially toward the end.

I watched the movie tonight and I have to say what a wonderful film it is. The end was very emotional, I am not ashamed to say I shed a few tears. The cast, direction and writing was wonderful, but in particular David Bradley's performance was magnificent and very touching!

Wonderful TV film, and lovely "behind the scenes"! And thank you so much for putting up English captions. I don't think that's appreciated as it should be :o)

I would love to see Carol Ann Ford as a guest star, maybe a recurring role, on Doctor Who in the future. She played the Doctor's granddaughter. So presumably she's a Time Lord (Lady) also. So why not have them bump into each other again? What if they disagree on something important and have to work that out? Seems like it'd be great fun and drama and science fiction. -- And I am glad to see the actor who played William Hartwell from the special, is returning again for the 2017 Doctor Who Christmas Special. He did a fine job and it was, and will be, great to see.
