Kurosawa created such an intimate movie with Dreams. I also think he’s a great director because if you don’t speak or understand Japanese, you can still watch his movies because they are very visual and emotional through that. This is my second viewing of his movies and still such an emotional connection to the material despite a huge cultural and language difference. Visuals truly is a language most everyone can speak.

Such a humble and open demeanor. He brought in his unofficial protégé. Also the fact that Lucas and Scorsese jumped at making this film no questions asked. Amazing.

How incredibly interesting and inspiring it is to see two legendary writers and directors with Kurosawa sensei! It reminds us all that no matter where we're from or where we've been, we can all love one another and respect one another. ❤️ And Martin Scorsese as Vincent VanGough is meaningful on many different levels if you know much about the people they are. The artists they are. The artist Kurosawa San was and is and will always be. 🥲

If Kurosawa could now see the films of his American admirers...he would definitely have very good things to say about Marti Scorsese. For Lucas...Kurosawa could probably agree that Lucas did try to learn from him about the visual element

I think Kurosawa realized at this point in his career that the joy of creating art was worth far more than awards.

It wasn´t an american movie with american stars. Only very, very few foreign movies get oscars. Today the oscars is a big joke. Many bad actors get one, but many greats never even get nominated. In Cannes they are at least serious about moviemaking and giving awards to the right people.
