To all those crying about how it wasn't as good as the original, well no shit. It wasn't meant to be it was a tribute to two great shows. It's not a remake,it's not going to be a new spin off, it was simply a tribute to Norman Leer and the shows. No matter who they would have cast to play Archie,George,Weezy, Edith,or any other character nobody would have been able to replicate the originals. I watched it and enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect but still better then 98% of the crap on TV today.

Looking back, Florence was easily the best character on The Jeffersons. With everything going on around the others, Florence was essentially the "referee" of the show. Side note: not only does Marla Gibbs reprise her role as Florence 44 years later, but she also reteams up with Jackee Harry from the series 227 back in 1985.

The one major casting mistake was Woody Harrelson as Archie. The best casting decision made was that of Jamie Foxx as George. For the record, the original actors in the respective roles, Carroll O' Connor and Sherman Hemsley, were true gentlemen out of character. While I have a feeling Jamie Foxx is so, I'm not sure if I can say the same for Woody Harrelson. It's as if he mocked Carroll O'Connor's work all the way through it, while Jamie Foxx appeared to honor Sherman Hemsley's. All told, this was an interesting exercise. Why not do this with other classic shows as well?

I feel political correctness has made us weak. Watching an episode of Star Trek where Uhura meets Abraham Lincoln. He says “what a charming negress” she looks at him and he says “forgive me dear I understand that in my time we used that word as a term of property” Uhura’s response was “But why should I object to that term sir? You see, in our century WE’VE learned NOT to fear words” It’s like we have regressed, its like we were making progress in this one area because of Shows such as Star Trek, All In The Family, The Jeffersons.. We could use truth, honesty that the “N” word exposes in our society of racism and bigotry, and start a great dialogue of overcoming fear and the aforementioned, but political correctness has turned us into a bunch of weak, self entitled complainers offended if someone blinks at you the wrong way Star Trek The Original Series, All In The Family, The Jeffersons, were way ahead of their time, and even seems to be now ahead of our own time Thanks PC Culture :/

So... your point is, what? You're disappointed you didn't get to hear a dehumanizing racial slur? Your rambling, rose colored nostalgia of Mid-20th Century television masquerading as some masterful thought piece doesn't explain how bleeping the slur ruined the entire message that was being presented in the show. Do you believe bleeping the word changed the message? Do you even understand the underlying point that George, and later, Helen were making? Or are you just, at the end of it all, whining about not being able to use dehumanizing language in entertainment without repercussion?
@tvmonte5 жыл бұрын
@@OneLoveRSR Yeah, I wondered about that too!
@chespottle55885 жыл бұрын
OneLoveRsr I totally agree that it does not at all change the message, I’m hoping we come to a place where we aren’t offended by words, names. We assign meaning to words and what I loved about Uhura’s response is that word had no power over her anymore That’s the place I hope we come to I also hope (but maybe it’s a stretch right now) that one day bigotry, racism will all cease. That’s my point.
@chespottle55885 жыл бұрын
ST 23 I’m very grateful for your response as you’ve given me some points to think about Considering they went ahead and used the “N” word and bleeped it out, it both respects the weight of the word and those rightfully sensitive to it Thanks for wording yourself in that way :) it was an eye opener :)

Unfortunately I found the "All In The Family" skit almost painful to watch. The casting was all wrong and I just didn't enjoy it at all. Jamie Foxx as George Jefferson was one of the saving graces. The "Jeffersons" was not quite as painful as Marla Gibbs made a cameo which completely saved the skit. I''ve seen spoofs of "All In The Family" and the "Jeffersons" before and it was way better than this. They should have taken more time to hire the right people without necessarily focusing hiring celebrities to play the parts. I was more than a bit disappointed.
