Күн бұрын

The first woman to hold the position of president and senior executive producer at CBS News, Susan Zirinsky is a seasoned veteran of political and election battles. Her career has spanned more than four decades at the network, beginning right after Watergate, and she was famously the inspiration for Holly Hunter’s character in the 1987 film "Broadcast News." Zirinsky speaks with Walter Isaacson about the backstory on President Trump's infamous "60 Minutes" interview, and the challenges of covering this unique election.
Originally aired on October 28, 2020.

Trump really does not like answering questions of relevancy, things that Americans wants him to answer to, like his Taxes unpaid, any Connection to Russia Interference in Americans’s Voting Process, Affordable Healthcare, If he is against White Supremest Organizations, how he would handle Racism in America, Will There Be A Reform Of Law Enforcement For Just/Fair/ Equality For Minorities In The Way That Minorities Are Treated In Or Without The Court System, What is his thoughts on how to handle the COVID19 Virus and how to get Americans Back to Work Again with this Pandemic going on and the when and how the Stimulus Checks/Package Deal will be Passed/Distributed To American Families Who are Struggling!!! The POTUS should be able to answer any and all questions, whether they're "tough" or "soft". @@brendaswann7292 Not at all - it's a very important point. And if Susan Zirinsky is sincere about running and anti-racist workplace and newsroom (which it sounds like she is), she would not only welcome this being pointed out, she would be thankful for it. BIPOC with names that are "unusual" to white people have to endure them repeatedly mis-pronouncing their names, every day, ad nauseam. It's a racist micro-aggression, and it's not ok. Kamala Harris is one of the most reported on women, and arguably the most important woman in the US news currently. It's unacceptable that the head of a US news network can't pronounce her name correctly. Though I know little about Zirinksy aside from this video, I agree that she is articulate and seems intelligent. It's great to see women in those kinds of positions - we need more of them. My comment doesn't negate her accomplishments or value, it only points out an important and harmful mistake. Those of us trying to be anti-racist unintentionally screw up all the time. We want other people to call us out so we can do better going forward.

Leslie Stahl was not disrespectful or biased. She had to interrupt the president repeatedly because he routinely dodged her questions. Her job is to get answers to her questions, and he was trying to worm his way out. She was not aggressive, She was assertive. I have A problem with this woman’s word choice, because she says aggressive when that is The wrong word. Aggressive means behaving as though you matter, but others don’t. Assertive means behaving as though you matter, and others matter. Leslie Stahl behaved assertively. Insisting that someone stays on topic in an interview when you are the interviewer is not disrespectful or dishonorable. It is literally what she is there to do.

I noticed that Leslie was at least friendly and courteous while interviewing Trump, while Nora O'Donnell was serious, stern, and not even a half-smile once. She made several facial expressions that seemed to say she didn't like, or disagreed with, Biden's response to a question as he was answering it. Bottom Line: Trump couldn't handle tough questions, didn't answer many questions and lied non-stop...and was rude to Leslie, while Biden stayed cool and calm answering all questions asked of him, while being professional and courteous to Nora. Perhaps the pressure was 'on' Nora to ensure Biden got not only tough questions, but a tough, stern, interview...she did that. She was direct and obviously experienced, not sparring, but asking questions and not interrupting while Biden answered. Ultimately, both Leslie and Nora did a great job. Who did a terrible job of answering questions? Trump and Pence.

@@daniellescott6701 Can I ask you something aren’t you supposed to be the nice ones the polite ones the ones that don’t call names not the radicals seems to me like you guys: sure use a lot of names and you’re willing to jump down someone’s throat in a heartbeat to stick up for someone who doesn’t give a flying crap about this country and when you win and he declares himself dictator I’m sure you’ll be out in the street celebrating and dancing because you don’t bother to look at the real facts voter suppression doing away with the ACA taking 700,000 off the food stamp stamp program no big thing even though we’re in the middle of a pandemic but you probably don’t believe that either that’s right it’s a hoax and all those lives that have been lost was a hoax well I’m sorry to tell you this but I happen to know for a fact and you can call me a liar if you want there is a facility where my son and my granddaughter work. They got lax on waiting for test results to see if a new patient had Covid guess what I was positive But I was reading some of your sites feelings on this. Just going to quote one comment There old. Underlying Diseases it was time for them to go so they died. Wow how nice you are. But not only the old throw away people died. But no matter, out of that one patient 22 patients came down with Covid out of the 22, 9 have now died. The symptoms they were telling me about trust me I’m scared to death of this virus also 10 staff members came down with Covid 2 are now critical But nothing to worry about the ages of the people that died was from 45 to 100 and my son and my granddaughter didn’t really believe that Covid could kill they took precautions at work because they had to They definitely know now that Covid kills Just have to throw this in they have now traced 30,000 new covid cases to super events with Trump look it up don’t call me a liar look it up I think it’s in the Washington post which is definitely pro Trump. I’m going to end it like this I’m going to pray for all the lives lost and there families, Oh I must tell them they had no value, so why even mourn They’re passing and you go back and you can find these post it wasn’t just one over and over again I read horrible things about the people that died What a great bunch of people you are and what a piece of crap We Democrats are.

interesting use of language to say Stahl was "aggressive" in her interviewing style. I don't remember Johnathan Swan from Axios being called "aggressive" for his similar interview with Trump. Instead, he was praised for interrupting, fact-checking Trump's statements in real time. Stahl did a great job and Trump couldn't handle it

I’ve seen Susan’s name on so many CBS news shows. It’s nice to see her face. As a former reporter, I’m so sad to see how low journalism has stooped for ratings and, ugh, the Nancy Graces who call themselves journalists. Ms. Zirinsky gives me hope as a woman and for the profession I love and respect so much. Thank you, Susan.

Really a very sharp minded, "fast-on her feet" woman. I fully agree with the comment below by Pat Wats. This lady is a very analytical speaker. No need to interrupt her. And question one would asked is generally covered by her if you simply just listen. She would be a fierce interviewer of any politician.

Agreed. Very similar to sharp witted comedians. The speed of their minds are far greater than the stupid and when you start questioning the stupid they get defensive. Classic kindergarten analysis.

Only members of Trump's cult continually create conspiracy theories or vague excuses for Trump's inability to answer the simplest questions. Anyone with the ability to objectively analyze an interview can pick out Trump's tactic to personally attack the interviewer, when he does not have a good answer. The interviewer also has to follow up questions when the answers are unclear, false, or misleading.

Tough questions should be asked to our president. As Obama pointed out, if President Trump cannot answer a reporters questions, how can he stand up to dictators from foreign countries? The American people deserve clear answers, not a dance around the questions or an ego booster talk.
