Yeah, my grandma's sister passed away some 20 years, but she was at the time 95 - and her mind was gone, just a walking slow-moving shadow. My grandma, the youngest sister of the big family, now has Alzheimer and goes in and out of knowing and understanding. Seeing the mind go, while the body isn't really in a bad shape, is a hard thing.

My grandma died at 103...she had 6 kids 23 grand kids 7 great grand kids 2 great great grand kids

My grandma was just about 84 when she died but she had 8 kids (actually 9, apparently one died when they were kids), something like 45 grandkids (my father older sister's married young and have a lot of kids and his youngest brother (from his mom because my granddad has one younger son from another woman...) has kids popping from everywhere, from multiple women), at least 20 great-grandkids (my father's sisters' children also married young... and some didn't wait to get married...), at least 7 great great grandkids (yep). Yep, my family is huge on my father's side. Now 5 years later the family is much bigger...

My grandfather died at 103 this year as well. He had 12 kids and 46 grandkids and 101 great great-grandkids. Beyond blessed!

Oh thank you both. I count myself lucky. She was a really smart, kind, funny woman with the right pinch of mean :) who despite periodic hardship seemed genuinely happy. She worked in the shipyards and later at Morgan Stanley, and in retirement kept working in stores and banks as customer service reps and traveled the world. She never seemed old and her outlooks and openness even evolved and grew until the end pretty much. Her mother and oldest sister both lived to 102! Tiny Italian women cured in olive oil :)

I could be mistaken, but Dorothy appeared to me to have Native American features, and then she said she grew up on the plains. There were numerous plains tribes, including Comanche, the Lords of the Plains...?
