Didn't get into D&D until about 6 months ago, and I've been DMing for maybe 5 sessions total now. And I'm the same way, I cannot stop thinking about my D&D campaign or consuming related media. I'm glad I have a good group.

Anthony Aziz That's awesome! But as addictions go, there's ones far worse than D&D. 😀 Lots of great D&D resources here on YT, too. One could listen to videos all day... 😬

The battle royale sounds like a blast! I threw in a campfire session where everyone got to share a story, either a personal story or a fable that was important to them or their culture. We had that at the end of the first "chapter" of the campaign so that everyone had been playing their characters for several sessions. They had enough time to flesh out their characters and then the stories were a great way for the other characters to start learning more about their personalities and backstories.

You guys are welcome to join the battle royale if you want! The campfire session sounds like a great idea. I might need to incorporate something like that after this arc ends in my homebrew. The party is going to get a bunch of downtime so I would imagine they would all end up sharing a bit more about themselves.

Definitely interested! I got the campfire idea from a friend who GMed our games for years. I gave the players a heads up before the session so they could think over their story if they wanted, I told them they'd have an opportunity to share a story but didn't tell them the exact situation so it was still a bit of a surprise for them in session.

Roll 4 Initiative I play to do a battle royale for one of my groups at the end of the campaign. Which should be this summer sometime.

The game I DM folks send me all kinds of backstory, reminders of plots, and questions if they can do this or that. I have even had a player right me a backstory missive hand written in his own runic script. I give out bonus points to peeps for making up a verbal and somatic gesture for spells and prayers. The more in to the game they are, the more they are rewarded and they seem to dig it. Its amazing what folks come up with for their character bios.

So glad I'm not the only one that thinks about D&D every moment of every day. 😂 Did you say that your PCs are "infected" with each other? 😬 (Cuz that's what I heard over the buzzing of my toothbrush... )
