fun fact, Kijyo Koyo was once a consort to Minamoto no Tsunemoto, Mitsunaka's father and by extension Raikou's Grandfather (legally, anyway). Kijyo was chased out by Mitsunaka's own mother, because she was getting jealous that Tsunemoto preferred dinobussy instead of her. just like to imagine the possible timeline where Kijyo wasn't chased out, and if she was around when Raikou was born and, how life could've been better for Raikou

Suzuka’s origins are pretty complicated ranging from her being a bandit to being some moon maiden. She also was being simped after Otakemaru who is an oni on par with Shuten and when he insulted her for not noticing him, she decided to help that samurai kill him off. You’ll get more info on her through the story of Otakemaru than you will by directly looking her up

There's a lot to read on the Japanese wiki for Suzuka, it looks like the setting of her being the daughter of the demon king of the fourth heaven comes from a story within Suzuka's folklore. Seems that multiple folklore revolving around Suzuka Mountain was moulded together overtime and all became a part of Suzuka Gozen's story, so Fate was actually not too far off with this one. Not sure why she's a fox tho, literally no mention of foxes on her wiki lol

It's part of her rivalry with Tamamo. They debuted in extra both and Suzuka sorta stole Tamamos fox stick since she was jealous of Tamamo or something. It's also Tamamos fault that Osakabehime who in mythology is either a kitsune or a ghost doesn't reveal herself as a Kitsune because Tamamo threatened her not to.

But yes, Tamamo and Suzuka had a tussle that resulted in Suzuka deciding she was going to one-up her and thus aiming to be the better Kitsune, especially since Tamamo is not actually a Fox Spirit, but a jackal. Basically Suzuka was aiming to be the most convincing fake Kitsune.

@@frenchfry1071 I don’t think it’s much of a misconception when every other 8nteraction Suzuka and Tamamo have are about each other dissing the legitimacy of their youkai looks. Heck, Tamamo even created an entire skill in FGO purely to compete with Suzuka (though you don’t get the connection unless you kniw the double meaning of the kanji).

A number of Japanese youkai, like Oni and Jurigomu, were actually based on rebels who did not like the Emperor's/Shogun's rule, and would rebel, and these exterminations of youkai were usually just the killing of such rebels.

It’s now my personal headcanon that that one regional letter origin myth is secretly the reason they are genderbends, like ibaraki was like some dummy thicc delinquent looking guy (still probably blonde nobody knows where the blond hair genes came from though) tasted the blood and had a full transformation sequence into the banana oni we all know and love and fled screaming to the mountains not because he turned into an oni, but because he turned into a smol gril (and since it was feudal Japan that was probably reasonable). Shuten had like permanent bishi sparkles, I’m think tall and slender real long hair, still looks like a Chad, dramatic wind always blowing through his hair. And In a comical puff of smoke from the letter of a woman scorned(I mean… kinda they assumed they were scorned and DIED so… I guess don’t anger woman in feudal Japan unless you want to be a smol oni gril) was now also a smol oni gril, however instead of running to the mountains like Banana did she shrugged and casually walked to the mountains. Setting up their future dynamic This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever made but like… I’d still probably do it again. And would probably kill for a competent writer (aka not me) to make this not bad, but meh.

8:06 the demon king of the fourth heaven does not exist. It’s made up by Fate. The closest real life version would be Kama, the demon king of the sixth heaven. Which would make the two related but I don’t think Fate really thought that far.

Yes, but Orochi is in itself an amalgamation of several different dragons and evil mountain gods from different folklore. For example the demonic serpent that Sitonai slew is, in some tales, claimed to be Orochi too.

Can’t wait for the Ushi Gozen episode. She’s implied to be one of the strongest oni-demigods in Japan. Kintoki said her magical energy alone would make Gozu Tennou (Indra) tap out. Her lightning is black, stronger than any other (Raikou’s purple and Kintoki’s gold). As well as her Authority of Nation Building, which only few gods in Fate possess. Not to mention, the syncretism of Gozu Tennou = Indra = Susanoo in Japan. As for Ibuki Doji, she is basically the Ushi Gozen to Shuten. She is whom Shuten used to be before discarding her divinity and indulging too much in partying, drinking and malevolent activities that she eventually regresses from a benevolent god to a seductive demon. She met Kintoki when he was a child and even played with him, that’s why Shuten has some vague memories of him. She can’t remember her time as Ibuki, as she is an entirely separate personality thanks to the consciousness of mankind and stories amalgamated with her. Fun fact : Ibuki can’t physically see Shuten in Chaldea. Shuten appears to be a void-mist in Ibuki’s sight. Vice versa for other similar servants with the same situation.

i do wonder how they're going to implement this. Because ushi-oni unlike the other oni in chaldea is a specific species of oni. They also go by the name gyuki and they are Massive bowine like demons who make their home near shorelines and are sometimes attracted to big water sources. They are mostly bowine in appearance but they do have typically have multiple eyes and limbs like a spider and sometimes more. Their blood is poison and their saliva is toxic and corrosive.

@@cheshirecat7838 remember we fought those ushi-oni demons. Uea, those are ushi-oni, spider demons, not the same type as Ushi-Gozen who is the pinnacle of a divine-demonic deity/demigod . Ushi Gozen in fate is a demigod, a version of the tale adapted from a local japanese province in the late 15th-16th century folktale (or an actual demonic god, Onigashima , Raikou’s interlude and probably Heian LB (?) mentions that Ushi Gozen is a demigod so strong that even the gods couldn’t handle her). Big yikes since the theme of gods not being able to handle bulls exist since the Mesopotamian era (Gugalanna) as a theme in mythology. Whereas in the actual lore Ushi is described as a male brother of Raikou’s before transitioning into a demonic appearance (bull sized spider) that will flood Japan from its rivers once a year. Also important to note, this version is really old. The ox-oni was deified as an avatar of Susanoo (Gozu Tenno being avatar of Indra and sublimated through syncretism as Susanoo’s split persona). That’s why the demigod Ushi in legend was deified as a god instead of a bull-spider demon. She’s what Ibuki douji is to Shuten. Also, Raikou’s NP can be used in multiple functions: • summoning clones of herself using her lightning (divine energy) to represent the Four Heavenly Kings • recreate the event where she literally summons Ushi Gozen from within her body and let her take over • separately manifest Ushi Gozen as a sort of divine beast(?) as evident by the event in her lifetime There’s also the bit where Ushi Gozen is higher than Suzuka in divine rank (Suzuka’s true form as a deity via Trichiolcosm has her not only have Gil-level clairvoyance, but also manifest any outcome by the creation of worlds within her Blade into reality). Meaning Ushi Gozen is probably a demon-god (demonic divine spirit) kind of threat? Very weird to phrase it but intriguing to say the least since Romani confirmed Onigashima and Ushi Gozen’s power (albeit with a grail) was demon-god pillar level of disaster.

Otakemaru was infatuated with suzuka and kept shape shifting and trying to sleep with her night after night. Eventually suzuka teamed up with tamuramaro and they cut his head off. His spirit escaped to India reformed his body and went back to Japan again. Tamuramaro jumped him and cut his head off again. He was wearing two helmets so he survived the head swallowing his first helmet whole.

an interesting theory about shuten is that the first shuten we summoned is actually the head of shuten that raikou cut off which is why she is so small also why her np is the multicolored wine (the same one raikou used to trick her leading to the beheading) furthering this theory is that it would explain why ibuki is so much larger than shuten dispite supposedly being shuten lily

She is labeled as a child servant in game. Take this with a grain of salt because so are Beni Enma, Hans, and Asterios. Couldn’t find a reason why they made her short other than it looks cute

@@klidge Hans is quite technically a child due to his Innocent Monster taking characteristics of all his stories and tying them to his Spirit Origin. So he is an amalgamation of children (like the Little Match Girl), fantasy creatures ( ex. The nameless mermaid), and his adult mind. It’s like Vlad being a traditional vampire purely because he is Dracula’s inspiration. Asterios is more curious because he is treated as such because he never mentally grew up, or rather his adult self was treated as a monster so you summon a child-like giant. And do we get confirmation of Beni’s age? She may just have been thrown into “those” jobs as a child, which is not out of the question for ancient Japan.

For Beni I think the classification comes from her dying as a human at a young age, so that’s what her physical body appears as, but she has been the proprietress of the Enma Tei for 1000 years or something along those lines. So honestly it’s in the air for that
