This is such a special song. It's a message of hope when things are difficult, but it's also just as lovely during good times. A beautiful song, and a beautiful reminder to appreciate the little things in life.

I cried to this song every time when I was a kid and didn't know English yet.

He left out some tidbits like they first offered the song to Tony Bennett and he declined to do it so then they offered it to Louis Armstrong. Louis wasn't crazy about the song at first and looked at the sheet music and said "what is this shit?" Also the president of Kapp Records didn't want that song recorded and I heard he was locked out of the studio session. Kapp Records didn't push the song which is why it wasn't really heard here in America. As for me, I remember hearing the ending of this song on radio station EZ 101 in 1991. The radio DJ said when the song went off "song originally out in the 50s". That DJ was wrong. I have the clip on cassette tape. I first heard the complete song in 1992 and loved it. In 1993, I had a dual cassette deck and taped the song throughout the tape and I learned to play "What A Wonderful World" by ear. All the sheets music I have seen for trumpet is in a lower key, not the one that's heard on the song. Tony Bennett did record "What A Wonderful World" in 1970 that was on his album called "Something". I have that album. He even says towards the end of the song: "yeah, Louie Armstrong is right, kids, what a wonderful world". I have heard MANY renditions of What A Wonderful World but none like Louis Armstrong. In 1970, Louis re-recorded What A Wonderful World but with a message in front of it for his 1970 album "Louis & Friends". Though, in my opinion, the 1970 version wasn't as great as the 1967 version, it's still was good. In 2001, a rapper named "Sticky Fingaz" did a parody of this song called "Wonderful World" where he sang in a Louis Armstrong type voice and was talking about life in the street. I honestly thought the song was disrespectful to the original one done by Louis Armstrong.

What is missing is that many believe that mr. Armstrong invented american singing. Perhaps he is the greatest popular musician america ever produced.
