Song is so 'near and dear' to my heart. Grew up in Las Vegas ( Fam had moved there from an Air Base in Japan...directly....in 1964...I was 4 that year; and 7 or so years later, when i was 11 in 1971....This tune was one of so many 'great' early 70's Radio AM hits, that i cherish so. Such a wonderful, Optimistic, Happy Sound. Has stayed with me my entire life thus far. Now living in Reno, NV....and am 62. Thank you Stampeders...for this True "Gem' of a Happy Song!

This song made it into my heart thanks to Cleveland, Ohio's BIG CHUCK AND LITTLE JOHN SHOW on Friday late nights. Chuck and John used "Sweet City Woman" as the bumper/background music to one of their segments every week. Every time I play it, I go back to those days in the early '80s, staying up with my brothers. Good, good memories!

Thanks for giving me the context and history of the song that I love so much. And thanks for the song, all these years later. The lyrics came to mean to me, in '71, this girl I was going out with, and they still do refer to her in my memory.

i am a fan of guitar(rock ,jazz ,classical) since the 60, when i heard it in 1971, i felt the song was very catchy , but what called my attention was the solo guitar ,i became a fan of the song, the solo guitar(distortion by Marshall amp?) very sweet melodic line over the G G6 /Am9 Am. that merge produce a mix of smooth country jazz sound..the lyrics were marvelous story teller about seeing a girlfriend ,to the city and she was a singer..and the chorus is something that will live for ever ,very sweet . like the title of the song...at the end ..i think this was the perfect arrangement..well done

The banjo works so well in that song, The Stampeders were the first live concert I ever saw on the east coast in the mid 70's. My sister had "Against The Grain" 8-track I'd play when she was out!

Looking at live shows on KZbin, I hear the banjo but there isn't one on stage, I presume a recorded version of the banjo part is playing. You can't get a banjo sound out of a guitar. Not sure I believe this story. Perhaps a studio musician played the banjo? Could be why he says he can't play it now? Maybe he never did?

I saw these guys in Weyburn Sask. back in the '70's. Great band. Horrible venue. Too bad. I would have liked to see them in a place with decent acoustics. Edit: The opening act was James Leroy. He had a minor hit at the time called Lady Ellen. He was killed soon after. I believe it was on his way to his next performance. RIP James.
