I passed my driving test the first time. I am an adult driver & just learned everything by reading the DMV manual & watching all DMV California Driving tutorial videos here in KZbin. Watch the " Top 10 reasons for Failing the Drivers Test", that helped me a lot. My husband doesn't have the patience to teach me so I let him sit in the car while I practice. I can focus more when I'm not being yelled at. LOL! To all new young drivers the key is perseverance & practice. The only way to learn is to get on the road. If you failed more than once that means you need to practice more till your calm inside the car. The examiners are also human like us. Goodluck everyone!😀

+Lisa Seba I passed😆😆 Once you loosen up, it goes by fairly quickly and less stressful. Just make sure that if you dont fully understand what your instructor wants you to do, ask. Its better to ask and do it right than to not ask and fail. I was nervous and spaced out while my instructor was instructing me. I almost began but decided to ask her to repeat the instructions and OMG. Had I not asked her to repeat, i wouldve started driving forward instead of backing up like she asked. Only thing you dont wanna ask is how to do the maneuvers. That might mess your score up. Other than that, good luck!!☺☺ All this is if you havent already taken the test :s meh lol

This test is way too easy compared to mine taken in St. Albans Vermont. The examiner asked me to perform parallel parking, hill start and turn around. He failed me at the stop sign even though I did make a complete stop behind the white line. He said I need to wait at least 3 seconds at the stop line before pulling out. I still am not sure I pulled out too fast but my car completely stopped and speedometer turned back to zero. It was just ridiculous and humiliating experience.

People in my country say examiners have to fail x number of people a day. Before I took my test, I didn't believe it. They tried to fail me for not stopping at a pedestrian crossing when there was 1 old lady more than 20 feet away facing the other direction. Yeah, she sure wanted to cross to road... Sometimes you have to stand up for yourself. I passed.

Bloody hell this is so easy in the US. Here in Windhoek, Namibia you MUST do the yard test first. Which involves Reverse Parking from both Left and Right. Then you have to do the Parallel Parking, again both from Left and Right. This includes checking your mirrors and adjusting them accordingly. Then you do the Hill Start which is the most feared of them all. Hill Start basically is to Not let the car roll backward when you're driving off/forward. remember the car is parked uphill. If you're good enough getting through the yard test you go into the city driving around with the Test Officer seemingly trying to catch you off guard by asking you to do illegal maneuvers and or distracting you by talking non-stop.

There should be pulling over, backing in the straight line, then going back to traffic. Parking is simple parking. No backing up reverse parking. Everyone is very nervous. You are not alone. Just be somewhat nervous to keep you alert, don't be too nervous. Good luck!

As far as I know, they do not make you parallel park, but who knows stays prepared as you never know if they will make you do it. You will probably have to park in between two cars, again stay prepared. When approaching a school zone, if children are clearly present you must always drive 25mph, however if they are not, you are allowed to drive the normal speed limit Lastly you don't need to turn on the defroster unless you windshield in foggy, they just make you point at where it is.

Cookies. 1. no 2. there’s a reserved parking spot for the test for most dmvs and u never know whether there will be two cars beside it. and each dmv is different. just be prepared. 3. let any cars going straight in the opposite direction pass you UNTIL there are no cars left or there far enough away to turn. then u can turn left. 4. depends on what street you’re on. MOST LIKELY it’s either 35 or 45. go 40, but CHECK ALL SPEED LIMIT SIGNS FIRST. 5. it looks like a front windshield with a mist going towards it. u can look it up online

1. no, but they do make you reverse in a straight line. i don’t think there is exactly a determined length you must drive, but for most tests it seems to be at least 3 car lengths or more. 2. usually, yes. at the end of the test (for most DMVs in CA that i have seen) there are a few specially marked parking stalls for you to park in at the end of the test which will also be graded. 3. i believe you would treat it as an unprotected turn, so just check your surroundings and make sure it is an appropriate time for you to make your turn when the light is green. 4. as a general rule, residential is 25, buisness is 35. but odds are there will have been a speed sign for you to already be obeying by the time you get to a school zone. 5. in most modern cars, there’s a little button with a special icon. you can google it to see it. be aware they might also ask you for the back defroster if your car has one, i don’t think it’s common, but you should know anyway just in case.

I had kept my signals on for too long in the lane change and was marked on signaling in parallel backing. Also I had issues with the speed in business/urban residential/rural. Plus i was marked in the gap area and was too wide. The biggest issue for me on that day was that I was too close to the cars in front of me. Keep your distance reasonable to the cars in front of you (car length per 10 mph). If you are too close it is not necessarily a fail but you will be marked for it and your examiner will let you know. In the improvement checklist I need to stop with adequate space for vehicles in front of me, Do not make turns too wide (still need to improve on this, but I used a 2016 RDX), Cancel turn signal after lane change (keep your signaling to the point). I got 0 errors on the pre drive check list as if you get more than 3 in that section you fail before leaving the parking lot. Score sheets are available online, which should give you a good idea. I can put a link if you wish. Just be confident and be ready for the test. Examiners are not trying to fool me.

Yes. "A right-turning car is supposed to move into the bike lane before the intersection - anywhere from 200 to 50 feet before - first signaling the lane merge, then merging right to the curb lane, and finally making the actual turn once it's deemed safe."

jayvee chua I think you can after pausing for a few seconds and making sure it's safe to turn, unless there's a sign that says no turn on red

I have a question. So u know how u can do a right turn when the light is red? Ppl told me that I can't do that on the test and that I have to wait until I goes green. Anyone help ??!

To do a right turn when the light is red-- completely stop even if there is no oncoming traffic, treat it more than a stop sign, yield to traffic of all other directions (I mean not only yield to the traffic which are coming straight forward from your left, but also yield to the traffic which are from the opposite direction of you, if it's a crossroad, you know, the vehicles which are making left turns and are turning into the direction you're going to turn into. Hope it's clear. I wish I could draw a picture for you.

You can after making sure that you yield for cars coming from all other directions.

Samuel Lopez when i took the DMV test i made a complete stop at the red light and waited 3 seconds then I slowly proceeded. If there is pedestrians I would not turn at all I would just wait till it turns on green.

My sister's driving instructor is telling her "When make a turn you cannot remove your hands" and it sounds bogus to me. Can you tell me how did your family member position their hands when turning? Thank you!

Nothing special, I didn't even notice it. One thing I know is that it is better not to position your hands in anyway that may get your thumbs hit by the wheel in case it spins fast in the opposite direction somehow. My family member's driving coach told him that. I guess there were people whose thumbs got injured that way.

keeping both hands when turning until they cross then remove one--sounds great and very formal. Hands over hands with palms up is probably a red flag in some people's eyes, like a newbie's bad habit. I notice some experienced drivers also do that, maybe that looks cool. I guess my family member and I don't tend to do that so our driving coaches didn't need to correct us, so we didn't pay attention to how we position our hands when turning. By the way, I used to mimic my experienced cousin who positioned her hands at the bottom of the wheel which looked cool until my dad seriously warned me that it could be dangerous especially on the freeway because I won't have much control that way, haha

+Jin's Life Lab Thank you for the replies! I learned the hand over hand palms faced down so it's odd my sister can't use it but then I took it over 5 years ago lol. My aunt drives with her hands both positioned at 6 o' clock my dad told me if I drove like that he wouldn't let me drive until I could buy a car for myself. :) Thanks again.
