wise words Ricky... as I once revealed to you I was in Gartree during the 80's when it was part of the Dispersal System. As you said, basic respect was a big thing which got you through...noise was the big issue that caused some trouble - but they only ever did it once and soon learned the code for being quiet! I really like your vids signature sounds Ricky - very good!

Yes, Ricky, you're looking good and, as always, a really good podcast. When I was in Wakefield prison in 1987, there was a mixed population. I was informed by my then personal officer that i was just 1 of 18% who was not in for an offence against women or kids. Yes, there were bacon's or nonce's throughout the whole of the prison and on B wing where I was located. However, there were also other men who were in there for Robbery and other violent offences doing big sentences. I became friends with two good lads, one from Gateshead and the other from Sunderland, and they steered me in the right direction because I was wet behind the ears back in 1987 and they would point people out who were bacon's and say don't talk to him or them and so on. Those guys from the Northeast were hard lads, but with me, they were good lads, and they helped me navigate my time at Wakefield during the 5 years that I was there. Over the decades since I was at Wakefield in 1987, I have learned and seen just how much the prison and its residents have deteriorated, for the worst of the worst are now there, and it's seems to be a completely different prison. Once I finished at Wakefield, I was transferred to HMP Nottingham, and from there, I transferred to HMP Lindholme and finally to Cat D Sudbury, which I must admit, was like a holiday camp and I could tell you some tales about that place and things I saw. Anyway, Ricky man, you take care and, as always, a very interesting podcast. You know Ricky, people say to me why the f--- do i subscribe to your podcast and I tell them why: Who Ricky was, what he has done, how he has turned his life around and what is going on in our prisons. Listening keeps me grounded and reminds me of the awful places prison is and to NEVER get complacent with my liberty and life in the community because, as you were, I am still on a life licence. All the best Ricky man 👍

Hey Rickey. Bit of a long one this m8, watch a lot of your videos. Im wondering if you know and can explain the difference, either here or in a video, between being an IPP,, and being on life licence. A Friend of mine is on life lincence, sentenced under the old system when he was 16 years old to life "At her Majesties plsasure" (AHMP). Obviousiy, that was before the reform came in and made it mamdatory for all lifers to have min tariffs. It was while he was serving that sentence they brough in the minumum tarrifs and he got given a min tariff of 10 replacing the At her majesties pleasure. If was a low tariff for murder but imo it never should have been murder, but manslaugter which he plead guilty to but CPS refuaed to accept. There was never an intent to kill, and judge who gave the tarrif acknowledged their was provication. Anyway, He served the ten and got out but has been recalled several fimes and is back inside now. He almost missed probation once as he couldnt get there and knew hed be recalled, so i took him over on the back of my motorbike at the time which we laugh about now as he is epileptic, he said "if i have a fit and come off, just carry on leave me there" i was like mate if you start break dancing on the bsck of this bike, we both coming off. Touch wood, we got there and back safely. So, yeah, just wondering if you can explain the difference and also, i know with him, and i would imagine IPP parole is similar and that, for example, he had an argument with his misses and didnt put a hand on her but was shouting and being aggressive and punched the wall. Police arrestd him, releasd within the 24 hour holding period, rearrested 2 days later on recall. Did 2 and a half years on that as releasd, hes back in now again. Wont learn. I have tried to help him as best i can but can only do so much. Anyway, is there a difference between out on IPP and out on Life Licence? And, do you think the IPP is just another "AHMP" because thetes no set min term, no releade date etc so to me, IPP seems anorher at his magiesties pleasure. AHMP was reaerved only for life sentences. It seems ro me, IPP is the same thing but could be given for range of other crimes too as a senrencing option. IMO, its worse than life as at least you get a set terms or tariff. IPP, AHMP, could be in 6 moth, 6 years, 16, 36, 56, 106 years. I know, bit of a long one mate, but appreciate your time if you do answer. Nice one Ricky. 👍

Quality video, really interesting, thanks Ricky. I can't help but feel that people in the outside world could do with a few lessons in respect and the way to conduct and present themselves. I'd be interested in hearing about the difficulties or differences in dealing with dickheads in everyday life when violence ideally has to be restrained, compared to how things are dealt with in prison. If my missus picked food off my plate she'd been gettin opened up, let alone a dirty junkie! Seriously though that is vile, disgusting behaviour in general let alone doing that to someone you don't even know. I find it truly baffling why anyone would go into prison and not spare a thought for the others inside with you. A lot of this is just simple common sense to anyone raised properly. But I suppose the problems come with different cultures and their natural lack of respect or those with a permanent chip on their shoulder? The ones that think that because they were running a bit of White and Dark about town that qualifies them as 'Gangsta'?
