I was talking to my youngest about your music and his wife mentioned you and the band had been playing for a while. We joked I was behind the times. Dealing with depression I can relate. I'm on meds for it which helps me cope. Keep doing what you're doing. I think you have a tremendous outlook and the young people and teenagers are watching you. When you're performing the young people come alive. It's nice to listen to music that is clean. I've gotten old enough I dont want to hear all the language. I really admire him. I absolutely love how he tries to normalise therapy and emphasises the importance of it. I am in the middle of a divorce now and therapy was what my husband and I desperately needed but he didn't want to go, nor see how badly we needed it. I love how Dan speaks in a vulnerable way about his struggles. It takes a man with a lot of courage to do that. I really respect and admire him. I wish that he will find the truth he is seeking. May he stay blessed and his family too

I have never actively listened to Imagine Dragons. Then I was invited to a concert in Prague and liked many of the songs. I have created a little playlist on Spotify and randomly played a song or two. Three weeks after the concert my life literally crashed and I lost strength, meaning of life, happiness, energy. For the last 4 weeks I just wake up in the morning, argue with my head to leave me alone for a while and hope to somehow survive till the next one. However, I have expanded my Imagine Dragons playlist and am stucked to it. Because beside going to therapist, it is the songs like Bones, Sharks, Natural or Enemy keep me alive and help me not break down completely. Music really is a miracle and ID do a great job for me right now. Thanks.

The song “I Don’t like myself” is the one that really speaks to me. Had a hard time making friends or forming some type of relationship with people because they always treated me like I had some sort of mental Illness or disease. It was mostly because of my appearance. At first I didn’t think there was anything wrong but because people refused to interact or bullied me, I started to believe the things they said about me. After that, I became antisocial and maybe a little rude but kept to myself majority of the time. Just stopped caring. I still have my moments where I lack confidence and wish I wasn’t born the way I was, but I am improving. Work in progress
@celineherold5 ай бұрын
I can pretty much relate. I was bullied in school to the point that I even was afraid of wearing a band shirt, which was OneRepublics' Native Tour shirt at that time. I had no friends and school was awful. But it's been music where I found myself. First Sunrise Avenue and OneRepublic, then Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams and all those 70's/80's Rock songs and also Imagine Dragons. "On top of the world" was actually my first song ever to buy on iTunes. I hope that you are much better now, and that you got away from bullies. The weird thing is, it's not you being weird - the others are just very very weird. I still don't get why people need to bully others, why they can't feel into the others, how they might feel or not. Greetings from Munich 😊

It was very interesting to hear his thoughts which he is not sharing everytime as some other people, appreciate it so much. The struggles, the pain, the love, the happiness are all included in one person. No one can escape from the feelings…Profession, children, marriage .. everything is so complex and if someone never experienced depression after all, is unreal for me… The thing is, we need to value happiness and walk through heavy moments fast as we can, when it happens… Depression is nothing but pain, strong pain.. That is why we need to value the happy moments and feelings. We need to balancing in ourself, not easy but worthy. This world is magical, people are magical, animals and nature are magical… just the point of view. We must practice, nothing’s coming easy.

I’m 26, not that much younger than Dan, but I consider him as someone who raised me (in ways my parents never could). A lot of the person I am today - I attribute to him. In hindsight, my life as well (to him and his music). It’s because of his vulnerability that I looked into myself and started acknowledging things that were happening within me. It’s thanks to him that I’ve learned to “dance” with those things and am alive and well enough to continue doing it with compassion for myself (which he taught me). It’s because of his and Aja’s example I’ve learned that a relationship/marriage is two people choosing to stay by each other’s side and working through issues and that that’s how it lasts. They’ve given me hope and faith in love and have taught me what it really should be about and that in turn has helped me become a much better person than I would’ve been had I not have them to learn from. Thank you for this interview. I’m so happy to see Dan growing and evolving and sharing that with the world. Because that vulnerability truly can move mountains in people. It did in me and I’m forever grateful. And I’m grateful for the opportunity to follow along his journey since 2011. Here’s to many more decades of truth searching and being the best versions of ourselves we can be. If you took time to read this, I’m sending love to you and I hope you take care of yourself. 🤍

This talk was so great. I've always adored Imagine Dragons and found their music to be resonating with my soul and struggles and just the rhythm of my life. Only listening to the latest album I noticed that there were a few "depressing" songs, I felt there was a struggle in them. And finding this interview - I finally understand what that was about and why it's there. Every day I find more and more celebrities that open up about how they really feel and I find it as something unimaginable that the people on the top also strugle, they are also just humans and we all go through the same paths in our lives, every one unique but we all share the same problems. It's extremely sad to me that we can't all overcome the different issues and we can't all be at peace with ourselves. But the talks like this one make me rethink a lot of stuff. I am extremely thankful for this video both to you and to Dan. In the weirdest way this is very inspirational and full of life. Makes me understand why it's important to be at peace with yourself and why it's important to listen to yourself. It really is okay to struggle and we shouldn't be trying to hide and cope with it. Sometimes you just must allow grief and saddness to go through you. But you have to do it to empower you and to go further. Thank you for the talk...

This is such a powerful interview. I am a teacher in South Africa and a lot of my students as well as myself went to their concert. I always loved their music but now that I have gotten to learn more about the person Dan is I have been really impressed with his bravery in sharing his truth. I am trying to figure out how I can share this video with our students.

Idk if anyone will see this but I saw Imagine Dragons perform in Cincinnati on Aug 28 2022 and they blew my mind. Absolutely send adrenaline through every vein of my body. I don't have a lot of money and I won tickets because the opener Kings Elliot posted on twitter that she had guest list tickets still available and I ended up being the first comment. I have wanted to see this band since 2012 and 10 years later it all worked out. Through those 10 years - my mother died - my grandmother died - my sister overdosed and came back to life - my stepfather died -and Imagine Dragons LIVED...they lived - when I felt like I couldn't. Thank you so much for this interview.

Thank you guys ! Thanks for this strong interview. I mean two random men, not this random i know, but not cliché too, just two guys speaking about theirs feelings, theirs emotions, normalizing mental issues and depression. Speaking about LGBTQ “acceptance” issue. You said “if I can help just one, it’s already enough”. You sure helped one here. Talking about the seeking of your truth and living it. I love u for that. ❤️

Thank you for this down to earth interview. I'm an Imagine Dragons fan..their music has helped me no end...I found the part of Dan's feedback on parenting/religion and LGBTQ really interesting, in fact the whole interview is very informative and thought provoking. Thank you both.

I can totally relate to Dan's religious struggles. It broke me through my young adult years. Now at 50, I'm the artist that I've always wanted to become!!! Unlike Dan, I am Anti-Religious. Yes, please see a Therapist. I've had one for almost two years now. I'm now living in my own truth.

OMG Im in love with this interview for so many reasons Im getting lost among them! His down-to-earth canter and approach to mental health is ALL what my channel is about and it is so incredible to learn that he has such a disabling disability and yet counters it with intensive physical fitness. His comments about how his mother has impacted the world gives a great deal to think about too, and regarding his wife, I'd never heard of Nico Vega before but now that I've looked them up upon him mentioning the name I have no question why he was into her: She and her band are INCREDIBLE!

Thank you so much for sharing! We just watched Imagine Dragons live last week. It was my son's first concert and I was so thankful and moved by the messages of self-care, mental wellness, and being yourself. Growing up, that was not something that was ever talked about. As I've seen a lot of the same "demons" I've faced surfacing in my son, I've struggled with how to help him survive and hopefully thrive. Showing him an example of someone he looks up to facing the same challenges is so helpful.

I have an entire playlist called "Imagine Dragons" that I'll let go on repeat for hours while I do yard work or workout. Too many favorites to only choose 1 song. I find myself in each song in 1 way or another.

Music is a gift, like a buddy that releases all feelings, good and bad. It relaxes, excites, boosts moods, makes us cry, laugh, every emotion we have. It is a therapy. Even when we don't need therapy.

We are all broken. Even those who soar they have it all together. Done are better at hiding it. Some are just tired of hiding it. Speak up, speak out. There are a lot of wrongs done to us all. It doesn't stop until we talk. It's all mixed into all the good times. Music is a gift.

I can truly relate on so many levels, I've lost everything that ever meant anything to me, my marriage, family home and my career...I found the cold jagged rocks at the depths of the black endless hole, left depleted, worthless and lost my identity all for doing my job. My driving force is; if nothing changes then nothing will ever change. PTSD surviver...RUOK...QPS 19946. I too can't thank Imagine Drangons enough for helping me get through my darkest time...take care...

I can tell you that one of the hardest things I ever encountered is having lost my religion, especially knowing how religious my parents were. I lost my faith but because I was embittered toward religion, or God, but mainly due to my newfound understanding of philosophy, science, evolutionary biology, theology, physics, and so on. Also it is also true that religion has been on the decline in America, but also much it it is due to the masses being more educated. Essentially the profits have been going down …

I discovered the Band Imagine Dragons for me in 2019 and the song "Natural" helped me a lot, through a very difficult time in my life. I have all the music of them now and when I listen to it, I am alsways wondering how it is possible, that these songs sound, like they are written from my deepest thoughts and feelings in my heart. Now I discovered this interview and now I understand why I am so touched by the music of Imagine Dragons. Thank you 🙂 Sorry for spelling mistakes, I am not a native English spaeker and over 50 *lol*

Just seeing this interview and Dan you relate to all who suffer from Mental Illness which effects 3/5 people throughout the world. 🌍 your music helps people and at the same time when you sing and perform for us you receive therapy too. You have a cure for all who want it. I’ve listened to all but a few of your songs and I wake up with that music in my head. The Cure is to go listen to one of your songs and I’m ok for the rest of my day. No meds here I listen to the music it doesn’t have to be what I listen too. Just anyones favorite music and it changes your thought process. I love ❤️ your music and it works for me. Thank You 🙏🏽

I have been a fan of imagine dragons since night visions(saw them in Austin February 2014). Their music has helped me through so much from trying to figure out the meaning of life, through helping my husband through his addiction and coming out of that(now we have two wonderful children), to also losing my sister to cancer this past December(who also left behind four children). I haven’t been able to listen to music until here recently…. when I started listening to mercury acts 1&2 I felt like it was literally my life. I looked up what it was about and I’ve been crying all morning. You probably won’t see this but Thank you so much for the music you create. It has been here with me through the hardest parts of my life. ❤

When he talks about parents, “accepting”, their gay child is SO TRUE!! Im not gay, but when my brother-in-law came out, the parents told him they accept it and now he should call other family members to let them know…would they require that if he was straight? No way! I’m a bit older than Dan and depression was a relatively rare diagnosis when I was in high school, but that’s when I was first diagnosed. I was given one of the very first anti-depressants developed at that time. Once I started it it felt like coming up out of a dark well that I didn’t know I was in. I’m also artistic like Dan. I do several different kinds of art, but currently I’m writing novels. I became interested in Dan’s story because of his music. The novels I’m writing incorporate contemporary pop/rock music with the story I’m writing. I reference several Imagine Dragons songs in my books, because the music he writes is unique music and lyrics that evokes a lot of emotion. In regards to faith, I found rescue in Christianity, but I understand him saying there has to be balance too. He seems like he’s very in touch with his feelings which is pretty incredible, especially for a man. Part of me wonders if it’s a artistic trait that many of us are in touch with the feelings part of our personalities? Anyway, I’ve been a faithful Imagine Dragons fan from the beginning. There is rarely any of Dan’s music that I dislike. Thanks for sharing his story.
