As a first year studying art history where a lot of the artworks are funded by wealthy patrons, it’s crazy learning about modern art and its rejection of tradition. It’ll definitely help me understand more when I go to MoMa today :)

@@behindthemasterpieceplease let me know if we can help the channel? This video as well as others were helpful, the research and the visual aids, the script the voice ... all the elements of your video helped me acquire a general view of the artists that led to what we call today Modern Art. This did not deal with everything seperately, as "atomic factoids" but more in a "complex web of events"

Brilliant! I've been teaching Art Appreciation since 2017...and I realise that the more you find out, the more you don't have a clue...and to those who say 'you missed out something'...well that's their homework, you can't cover everything, you'd have to work forever to satisfy some people... Ignore the silly comments. Great content, well paced, well presented, relatable and accessible. Audio and visuals spot on. Well done!

This presentation is an excellent overview of what must have seemed -at the time- an almost heretical reimagining of what is art, who is it meant for who should be allowed to make it. I guess the reverberations of the affects of paintings as pivotal as Starry Night, Les Demoiselles, joy of life are still being felt today. Thanks for posting.

You're doing a wondeurful job, thank you for your videos! One small remark: Kazymyr Malevych was a Ukrainian artist and defined himself as one while being interrogated by russian agents. russians are trying to claim a lot of our geniuses and Malevych is between them

The frustrating thing about Modern Art is trying to separate the wheat from the chaff.

I need someone to tell me if I'm right or wrong. What I understand is, Classical art was like "Here's your painting. What you need to see, and what you need to understand are all here. You don't have to think" but modern art is like "Here's your painting. You are free to see whatever the f*ck you want to see because honestly, even I don't know what to see".
@gavinreid27414 ай бұрын
The classifications of "Classical" and "Modern" are to broad to answer that. Most people can understand an impressionist landscape,but how many would recognise the subject of an ancient Greece myth ,for example.
@yiyima21004 ай бұрын
Your understanding is correct but oversimplifies the difference between classical and modern art. Classical art emphasises clarity, order, and balance, and they generally express clear themes and stories that are easy for the audience to understand. However, this does not mean the audience does not need to think deeply. Because classical art is also full of symbolism and religious storytelling, it often requires the audience to think deeply to reveal the profound meaning of the work. As for modern art, its content is often more abstract and subjective, and artists encourage audiences to freely interpret the meaning of their works according to their own ideas. However, saying even artists themselves don't know how to watch is one-sided. Many modern artists have clear intentions, concepts, or emotions in their works that they want to express. However, they still chose a more open and abstract approach, allowing the audience to understand from multiple perspectives based on personal experience and perspectives. For example, movements such as Cubism, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism challenged traditional forms of expression and attempted to express more complex artistic ideas through these new forms. Therefore, you can delve further into what classical and modern art make an audience think about and engage with on different levels. If you have more ideas, we can further discuss them!

Good historical video and I appreciate it for that. IMO In the day & age of computer- generated AI art, I disagree with your conclusion.

Great video though your take on Hilma af Klint being overlooked due to her gender is the kind of unsubstantiated comment that reeks of 'trying to make a point' and does the rest of the documentary no favours. I believe that Hilma af Klint had requested that upon her death her paintings could not be shown for 20 years.

Hilma ad klimt art wasn't publically seen until the 1980s so had no effect on modern art development.
