don't know why you chose the Steve Hackett line… you don't hold any note in the lowest octave long enough for us to hear the movement in the sound over time when sustained. Also… should have routed these sources direct with no room ambience. Thanks for making the vid, but you're one of few I imagine with the gear to do this… perhaps you'll consider another crack at this where the audio is ran direct and you just compare like an 8 second sustained note of the low C or E.

It sounds like the filter cutoff settings are all different...I would suggest doing three plays on each unit (filter low, mid, and open all the way (brightest))

@@pfmdude The replacement unit was much much better! I still have an issue with having to select Octave before selecting Variable but it may be an issue with the Roland PK-5A. The sound is very good!

Can you do a video with them with just one at a time in focus. I have no idea what's happening here. You're lookin at minitaur and saying Taurus. Where's minitaur connected? Just straight up one note on one, maybe two. Move camera to next one and do that one, etc etc at various different shared settings. If filter strength is different maybe do a short one explaining the filter cut off limit differences and try to match the sounds with varying filter cutoff adjustments so we know which one is short on that and stuff! Plz and tyty if you have time!

Thanks for your feedback! Yes, I'm planning on redoing the video (I sent the original Toro back as it was defective) and hope to run them direct to a DAW for better clarity. Cheers!

Yeah, you're the only one pulling up minitaur with it XD everyone else is doing comparisons to only the dupe like we don't already know because it's beringer and they're always good on that... The REAL question is, do we spend 800CAD on Minitaur or go Toro LOL. Minitaur is just special. For bass I have good options but they're not exactly like Minitaur. I have Model D, Arp2600, and Minifreak isn't bad but I always wind up doing harmony and melody stuff with that...and syntakt can throw down too as well as be a drum kit but it is a bit thinner even on the analog tracks so i do compress and saturate everything out of it to match sometimes. I ordered WASP and CAT for my son because he's getting into making techno.. and I'll steal those when he's not using them XD. I chose them for him because they're easy and cheap to use but I'd be lying if I didn't like the cool buzzy wasp character and it can get to sounding pretty rock n roll too.. and the cat just does really nice fuzzy sounds that I can't seem to always imitate... plus we love cats lol.. so yeah, nothing completely like the minitaur. Model D is perfectly modeling moog but minitaur is just a different moog and I can't explain it and it'd be super cool if toro had that unique characteristic to it too.. or really even it's own unique character. It's more difficult to get a good strong bass out analog. Too often, these synths can get there but it's a weaker bass sound and I just want my bass to thunder.

Yes - it’s difficult, if not impossible, to follow what’s actually happening in this video, in parts … I understand you just got the Toro here … A good (actually useful) comparison video means matching filter sweeps, levels, doing quick a/b side-by-sides, etc … which is why most ‘comparison’ videos on YT are next-to useless.

Maybe in this example where the Toro was defective. The difference between a Minimoog and a Taurus is that the Taurus uses linear VCOs which is what causes that fat sound detuned without thinning out.

the variable settings the the Octave switch (Lo Med High) was set on low. As soon as I shifted it to Med everything worked as expected.

This solved the octave issue with the variable setting. I sent the Toro back and received a replacement.

Toro sounds weird here. I know the creator of the video knows and has it fixed but just to reinstate, the Toro normally will sound better than this. I play it through my tiny fender bass amp and it still will rattle pretty much everything. Only thing I don’t like about it is that it is a Behringer product, but it was either this or the Minitaur and the Minitaur just sounds like a generic Moog bass. So the Toro is the clear choice.

I did get my Toro replaced and the new one is very nice. I use it regularly when performing now and no complaints at all. Also!! I had issues with the 'Variable' only working when I engaged the Octave option. Many months later I discovered that on the variable settings the the Octave switch (Lo Med High) was set on low. As soon as I shifted it to Med everything worked as expected.

@@jsbrown51 yeah that’s true, they got the variable octave setting wrong. Octave low is supposed to be the same as whatever octave is going to the other presets. Because you’re sending C0-C1 they get changed to C-1 or whatever and don’t go through.

Hmmm, just on first listen, I'm not too impressed with the Toro, it doesn't have the same sound as the vintage units, maybe it can be massaged into having the same sound, but this is disappointing to me.

It's possible it is failing on and off. There are times it sounds quite good and then drops off to rubbish. I've returned the current unit and having another shipped. Trying to get any form of customer service is frightening.

Has access to several thousands of dollars worth of superb instruments, yet plays them through an amp (crackling at times) and records them with a cell phone? Why? But thanks anyway.

Not sure about the crackling, they were run from a mixer directly to powered HeadRush speakers. There some people on a Facebook forum who were looking for quick side-by-side comparisons but didn't have the equipment. As mentioned above, given a little more time may run them directly into a DAW and see how it comes out. I understand your comment and appreciate your feedback. Cheers
