The style was built up over time. Back with even Ms. Marvel's Test Run I kept using oversaturated colors that didn't quite make sense to me. So I did more studies on color grading and cinematography. What I found was that I LOVE Retrowave colors! So a bit more color theory and restraint allowed me to achieve the kind of colors I love! But beyond that is all about going for a style. Something beyond sticking a model into the engine, adding some sun, then hitting render. This is where we all have our personal journeys to discover a style we want to go for. I personally LOVE concept art but I can't draw. So I've been buying assets and tweaking my cel shader thing to be sorta mixed with how it takes in lighting but a bit more muted. The ambient occlusion finishes off the character look and connects their slightly flatter lighting to the environment. Then the colored outline I did because I was inspired by Mitchell's vs the Machines and its thin outlines that aren't consistent. Something that's there to help clarity, doesn't puncture them off the screen towards the viewer by having random thin line thickness, and also gives a sense of character with its coloring. It really ties everything together! Then we have the background depth of field and sky. The sky is an anime sky asset that I had to SEVERELY break to get it to work how I personally wanted it to. Absolutely beautiful result when paired with a big matte painting sphere for extra painted look. On top of all this is another shader using "Chameleon". The Kuwahara effect. Absolutely beautiful static depth of field effect that hangs at a distance you set it and everything beyond its wall will become more painted like and simpler strokes the further in the distance they go. Also more blurred together. I learned this from watching It nto the Spider-Verse and realizing they REALLY changed up how their depth of field looks compared to a regular movie. So I did the same based on concept art. Then there's a line shader for the environment. This shit is literally stealth mode until fog comes in. Then you can see the thin black outlines of the environment and it's super cool! Because it's so thin it doesn't break immersion and look too cel shaded. But it JUST makes shit pop perfectly enough like the pillars of a building. I used to have it more egregious but it was too cartoony. In fact, it's fuckin' reversed. It's like an inline thing because that led to the results I liked far more. Also cleaner. So there were lots and lots of decisions to get to this style and it continues to develop for Makoto vid. I've also been "Crapifying" the camera to make it more cinematic. Like the film grain returns because to me it's like the canvas of an image and for a video it's like visible air that connects everything. Film grain used well is wonderful! Another big choice was cutting down on bloom. It could look good, but I generally find it too dreamy for the sorta realistic blend I'm going for.

This took months due to me trying to use UE4 Chaos to its full potential for this vid but surprisingly it's not meant for complex building destruction. Pieces falling down off the side and stuff, sure. Chaos is wonderful duct tape for handling a certain level of destruction. But when it gets COMPLEX like throwing a gts through it sideways and having it fall down like a tower? NOPE. I found out you can either glue everything together where things stay up even when they shouldn't by a little piece or everything falls apart on contact with damage threshold reached. It's like you can control how it falls apart but not the structural connections of the building.

I have a bunch of questions about your workflow 1. Where do you get sounds from? How did you modify heels sounds to match the gigantic size? 2. For what different tasks are you using Blender and UE4 for your projects?
@AZmaybe92 жыл бұрын
. I buy sound packs from Unreal Marketplace and... Sound morph? I forget but they made Rupture and Massive destruction stuff I always use! Most recently I've used Epidemic Sound and it is truly GLORIOUS with the amount of sounds it has! Start there! . The heels are a mix of lowering the pitch, I think a robotic step crunch sound like I did for Samus or not this time, and a sub impact! Also small rupture impacts for concrete. . Blender is for fixing model issues and animating. Unreal Engine is for creating the scene and rendering with all the camerawork and everything. Blender handles character physics with Minmax and mine's Gravity Collider plugin and I will be learning destruction using Blender instead of using Chaos like this one. Chaos isn't straightforward to use for complex building destruction and when it took a year for me to figure out, it didn't have what was necessary for what I was going for. It can do walls and other stuff. Not anything more complex like proper building collapses due to glue/not glue only constraints. (Like it can't do a falling tower for example) Alsoemory leaks causing me to have to restart the project after each render and I had to render from the beginning for each variation because Chaos doesn't play back naturally and must have an event play it to start. Then there's crashing after each other different idea I had to workaround its pitfalls.
@radcloffe_r2 жыл бұрын

Releasing a version without the voice over would make sense because fans could make their own voice over as well
@AZmaybe92 жыл бұрын
Modifying a game makes sense, but modifying a video that has a specific idea to it? Like fan voice overs don't need sound effects to do the thing if they're trying to sound like the character. But then like... I feel I've uniquely been getting asked about sound versioning my vids. Music only, sound effects only, sound and music only. I honestly don't know what to think about it.
