On the one hand, I feel like normally it would be really crass to capitalize on the worst nuclear plant tragedy in history. On the other hand, it's pretty clear that the devs are treating the subject matter with absolutely the appropriate gravitas due to the worst nuclear plant tragedy in history and that it looks like it will probably be a really good introduction to the events at Chernobyl for those who haven't heard of it or don't know much about it. Certainly looks like they've absolutely nailed the atmosphere of such a disaster, and we've only seen the exterior of the buildings! Gotta agree with a comment I saw from somebody else about the title though. I feel like something like "First Response: Chernobyl" would be a more gripping title free of the "Simulator" stigma. Let me share some history with ya. The firefighters who responded had no idea that it was a problem with the nuclear plant itself, they thought a fire just broke out. They didn’t realize something was extremely wrong till firefighters started dropping to their knees one by one vomiting and showing signs of burns, even when they didn’t get close to the fire. Mostly everyone that lived in Chernobyl during the incident died later due to cancer related issues. Sadly, none of the firefighters lasted long after they put out the fire. They all died in the hospital. Pripyat and Chernobyl are still abandoned and highly radioactive to this day. With the proper gear and person, you can go to Pripyat but not for long. As someone has explained radiation before. Every atom of radiation is like a bullet, penetrating anything in its path, dirt, metal, flesh. There were people at Chernobyl that started bleeding through their pores because of radiation.

I'm coming to say what most everyone else did too. I recommend watching the series 'Chernobyl' I think it was HBO or Netflix. HOWEVER, you may not want to watch it. It's disturbing and dark. It's very well written and eye opening and you'll learn a lot but it's not a happy series. Thankfully it's short, I think 5 episodes. It's like watching war movies.
@asgaiyawaya3973 Жыл бұрын
It seems pretty accurate. You notice how there is a unnaturally bright glow around the flames? Yeah that actually did happen. That's not a CGI thing, well obviously it is but not the point, if you watch the Chernobyl series or watch a documentary or read any book about Chernobyl that's something you repeatedly hear about is that when the first responders arrived, and the workers were trying to figure out what happened trying to delude themselves into thinking it was anything but a meltdown, they kept talking about the air around them glowing, especially around the fire. Just this bright unnatural glow. In the Chernobyl series the character Dyatlov made a reference to the Cherenkov effect and that's what that is. Seeing how bright it is depicted it makes you wonder why this wasn't taken as a warning that this wasn't a normal fire. But then when you follow all the literature documentaries and such the answer is quite obvious the alternative was too horrible to accept. It would mean that the state wasn't the trusted system they believed in but rather this criminally negligent totalitarian government. That's an obvious answer for us who know what that government really was but not so obvious if you were a law-abiding Russian citizen at that time.
