Right now the restrictions and rules in the Czech Republic are as follows: 1. As a foreigner, you are allowed to come back to Czech Republic only if you have residence permit here. However, if you are not coming from a "safe" country or if you have the disease symptoms you are obligated to stay home in quarantine for the next 14 days. 2. Basically only grocery stores, drugstores, pharmacies and post offices are open right now. From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. they are restricted to elderly people only (over 65 years of age). 3. Everybody is supposed to stay at home. Meeting with other people if prohibited. You can only go to work, or go to stores for necessary shopping. You can also make a small trip in the park or outside Prague, but you need to be alone there. 5. When you are outside from home (i.e. in public places, stores and public transport) you ALWAYS need to wear a facial/surgical mask or a respirator. So the FIRST THING, GET THE RESPIRATOR or at least the facial mask!! If you do not have one, you can use a scarf or something similar so that you safely cover your mouth and nose. Unfortunately, they are sold out in most pharmacies right now. 6. When you are in public keep at least 2 meter distance from other people. 7. You can use the "blue zones" for parking your car anywhere in Prague (or other cities). 8. When applying these rules use common sense. The police is trying to make it as smooth as possible so they are not going to be checking you unless they have a strong reason. Disclaimer: The situation is changing every day so stay updated.

You're very kind to list these rules for us, I will pass them along.

For example if you make 100 000 czk/month after taxation, your employer pay 190 529 czk in total. work with živnostenský list would translate rather to freelancing ... those who work like freelacer are osoba samostatně výdělečně činná (OSVČ) ... hourly paid employees have usually some kind of employment agreement (something like "partial" employment agreement :) ... the biggest difference than is their taxation. OSVČ pay income taxes alone, employees pay taxes as part of their pay slip. but that is more off topic:) what I am doing, when I have some articles in EN and want my father to read it (he speaks no, zero english :), I force him to use google translator. I have found your videos accidentally while at home with some time on my hands now (home office). Hats off to your Czech :o) I especially appreciate the way you use the inflection and conjugation. I can only wonder how my English sounded to locals 20 years ago during my stay in Wales (also, their accent is something you need to get used to!). As for the people´s fear to approach others - we were instructed to do so, "social distancing", we have state quarantine, so that is why. From my experience during those years in Britain I can understand the feeling of being sort of lost and suddenly more "foreign" than before. I wonder if e.g. US embassy in Prague could have helped with more info? Finally, I work in a place related to school - will your friend be able to teach children on an elementary level (like from say 7-8 years up)? I might ask our director nad put your FB page on our web. Sorry for such a long comment - that´s the perks of home office .o)

Hi Jen. I'm a Czech expat living in Switzerland and I empathize on so many levels. Listening to government press conferences in three local languages, while I can barely order food in one, and not even that in the other two, has been a frustrating experience. Without the two English newspapers (one of them behind a paywall), and a few coworkers willing to translate stuff, I'd be pretty much lost. You might find this part funny though - I have similar feelings as you even with the Czech rules! For the last week, I have been thinking about things like "can I go home, if I need to, and can I ever come back?" And even though I'm a Czech, having listened to the briefings, the answer wasn't easy to discover. Written rules which were published many hours after the briefings, they were different from what was said, they were spread out on 4 (!) different govt department websites. Media wasn't reporting much on edge cases like us, or were reporting incorrectly, and the answers were changing multiple times a day. Around the weekend, answering my question of whether I should jump into the car and drive back home ASAP became moot - before I would reach the DE/CZ border, the answer would be different from the time I left ;-). If you have some questions, feel free to point them at me, I have been following this more obsessively than I should have and I would be happy to put that to good use. Also, in this situation, people are being careful and many Czechs wouldn't invite other Czechs to their houses, just to keep the distancing. While I don't know your circumstances, I wouldn't necessarily point to xenofobia. I want to keep my house clear of anyone who doesn't need to be here, at least for now, and I'm sure many of us feel the same way. Take care!

While rather high level speaker, I’d love still improve... especially some accent stuff and identifying possible ingrained mistakes I do unknowingly (I’d love to be more natural while giving public speeches and similar stuff)... but it started to be exceedingly inefficient to try. I reached state, most would be satisfied to arrive... and I don’t know about anyone specializing in someone like me. Do You happen to know about any way? :-) Anyway I started learning Portuguese instead 😅

Já tomu říkám "doba associální" :-) Prostě běžný sociální distanc 2-3 ft zvetším na minimálně 5-6 ft. A místo osobního setkání telefon. My jsme docela silně xenofobní národ.

Hi, hope you are ok. I watched some of your videos and find them great and glad you are enjoying Prague. Great Czech by the way. It is understandable to feel confused and overwhelmed in this situation that is happening right now. And with Czech they kind of just shut the door and focus only on close family. However, I watch the news and Czech Republic is relaxing the restriction so should be better (by the way I live in the UK) . You may find the social distancing being around for some time as people were scared and Czech dont trust too much to others ( I am Czech myself, but I would count myself into open minded due to living abroad and having friends all around the world). Would say czech are more reserved. I am glad you highlighted the issue that people who moved to my country have not been explained what is happening. I think we should have more support system for this in place. Just thinking, on facebook is morning Prague group which is in english maybe that could help. Anyway please stay safe and well. Gonna check out the rest of your videos as find them great. And I advertise you to my cousin to watch you. She has straight A's( jednicky) and dvojku from English. My nedůvěřujeme cizím lidem, ale důvěřujeme lidem. The Fire of The Hope.

Nobody wants someone else around, not just foreigners, it gets sharper every day. It was pretty easy on Monday, today people are much more holding their distance, a woman in a shop and another one in a pharmacy specifically (and very strictly) showed me the needed distance, without me coming too near to them. People are more and more scared every new day, the media massage works, and we have to adjust to the fact that for some time other people will make a wide curve around us, and nobody will let us into their home.

Hello :) I just found your videos a couple of days ago and was worried how you deal with this situation. It is very sad to hear, that you do not get enough information, and I already know this is happening. My boyfriend came here with the Erasmus program from Turkey. I know exactly what kind of misinformation he gets to, earlier than the important stuff. According to how our government reacted so far (and I am watching it continuously), I know we can trust them to make the best decisions to keep everyone safe. No matter where are people from and why they stay here. In my opinion, it's better to avoid reading from unofficial sources. Reporters here are story hunters, biased, and mostly not very bright either. It's probably coming from some kind of pressure from above, but I think they should take the job more responsibly anyway. Enough about that :D The only media I'm following releases short information every time something new happens inside an already existing article about the pandemic. They always include the source too, so it's a good place to gather the most important official messages. It's called "Český rozhlas" (Czech Radio). Here's the link they use for the online reports: irozhl.as/9p1 - it's always the newest article with a section in the middle called "Online reportáž" where they add new information (newest on top). Using Google to translate the page may give you an idea of what is happening now. I don't say the translation is 100%, but usable. Hopefully, this helps a little to keep you informed without being dependent on someone else every single step of the way. But always, like someone already mentioned, we are here to listen and answer. I wish you the best!

Oh, I completely forgot about the explosion in Prague. At that time I didn't even know it happened. And I was living literally a hundred meters from the place. Lol. Anyway, I completely agree with your view on being a foreigner in a crisis. Some years back I lived in Paris when the Charlie Hebdo attack happened. I didn't know anything. I didn't speak the language, I couldn't understand the soldiers who were stopping me on the street, I couldn't read anything in French in the papers, I didn't understand what the security guys in the supermarket were telling me when I waltzed in with my backpack, I didn't understand what the driver of the bus was yelling at me when I got in, etc. It was a horrible month for me :) But this pandemic is a different level especially if your are a foreigner. I have a bad hearing so I need to look at people's mouth to fully hear what they're saying and now with all the face masks... well, today I felt like a foreigner in a foreign country again :) Sorry for my English btw. Držím palce, ať to celé přežijete s klidem.

Hi, Jennifer, Sir_Mac here, as always! From March, 19th, there are two new rules applied. 1) If you go outside anywhere (for a walk, to go into shopping malls, etc.), you are obliged to wear a facecloth (rouška, respirátor) or anything, what will cover your mouth and nose (scarf, home created veil, etc.) 2) The timeslot from 10 AM to 12 PM (two hours) is exclusive for the seniors or retirees, so they can go shopping. All other timeslots are forbidden for seniors or retirees, but it is for the "younger ones". I am more concerned about that small scar on your forehead, it bleeded a little bit. Be careful, those small injuries can be entrance for the covid virus...
@DreamPrague4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for noticing. To be honest, I didn't notice the scar until after I made the video! I'm fine though. That's great that seniors and retirees can go shopping exclusively - an excellent plan. Tell me, Sir Mac, what do you think of how the Czech authorities are managing the situation? My country, as you might have read, is chaotic. Be well....
@MacGyver5AF4 жыл бұрын
@@DreamPrague Well, that's difficult question to answer. Prime Minister Babiš is controversial person himself, the president Zeman is controversial person himself and this "tandem" is basically ruling our country. The Czech republic is divided in the opinion about those two men mentioned above, it is the same, like with President Trump in the US. The best, you can do, is NOT LISTEN to the press conferences just after some decisions have been made and delcared, by "krizový štáb", where the politics are present. The best, what you can do, is to read articles and news, created by immunologists and other medical experts. Let's name two of them - Roman Prymula (he is the member of the Krizový štáb) or Rastislav Maďar (our best epidemiologist).

So do you think that people who are in some kind of society like in an employment can reach help? But I think this depends on personality. Like we Czechs and Moravian and all the east nations like Russians are closed in majority so we often do not speak about our problems. So something like loneless can easy be hidden even with Czechs or Moravians. But you are right that foreigns in such situations much be in a worse situation. But the CVD pandemic thing in 2020-2022 we all know it was a political issue. So the restrictions affected many Czechs and Moravians too, at least those been really alone. Not every one had a job to go to socialize himself; small businessmen and home office workers suffering in cramped apartment blocks, putting up with noisy neighbors and children. Many of them became mentally ill. Thank you for your video, this one was also a lesson for me because I see you're more honest now than we Czechs are regarding emotions.

Jen, your video is great and I believe you bring a new perspective over the curent situation. For those who comment negativly, I understand that you can not understand the situation. Why? Because you can not easy understand. You are in the situation to have a family here, where you do understand the language and where you have on who to really on, more than just one person. Also, what you have here you can not have better somewhere else. With foreign people is all the way around. Jen try explain that and bring some good ideeas we could work on it. Government at this moment says stay home, don’t go to work if your job is in touch with other people and at the moment freelancers dont have guaranties for tomorrow. The government make no promises for thouse people yet and if happen to you be foreign and freelencer you can not know how your tomorrow would look like. Taking some action and coming with solution seems the most wise to do, is also called survival and I think is human to act that way. Nobody is force to understand foreign people and nobody is force to take the English lessons, you only have the oportunity to take something and offer something back in such times.
