(unless Barrowman thought he was appearing in "The Pirates of Penzance.") But this wasn't the place nor the role for it. Or wait, was it? Sondheim is Gay. Barrowman is Gay. And "Being Alive" never mentions a gender. Maybe that is why Bobby never found his "Someone." He wasn't looking for a Gay "Someone." But the late, great and straight Dean Jones will always be the quintessential best singer of "Being Alive." Just Saying... (And before all of the Barrowman, Esparza, Ramin and NPH fans start their vicious verbal attacks on me, that is my opinion. And you are entitled to yours. This song is really out of his vocal comfort zone, and the amount of strain John needed to sustain his notes was sometimes painful to see his face turn bright red towards the end, from pushing without an open throated sound. Also John was ACTING as opposed to setting up his moment before, being in the moment, and digging deeply into such intense words and feelings, which really make for mediocre theatre. Such a great song, sung by a talented performer who was in over his head. I like John in many things musically (especially his witty, sarcastic sense of humor), but this did not feel right when I watched it.

sorry but that's the weakest "what do you get?" I've ever heard, and the weakest performance I've heard of this song in general. I like him in other songs but this isn't his greatest moment

John barrowman has one of the best voices I've heard but this is easily the worst performance of bobby ever! The lack of emotion in this performance is depressing.
