I don't feel romantic attraction, but I do feel affection. Affection for my friends, for my dog, for my family, and, yes, for my QPR partner. You don't have to be a loving person to be human, but many aros are, and most of us can become just as attached to the people we love as anyone else

I love seeing other people's platonic relationship stories--my qpp is the best thing that happened to me

"Sometimes society places so much emphasis on romantic relationships that it can overshadow other meaningful connections." Very well said. "As a woman, your life should revolve around men." Me: OK. (Builds platonic friendships and invests heavily into them.) "No, not like that."

As someone who is Lithromantic, it is difficult being in a world of friends who feel you are odd based on your lack of a desire for a romantic commitment. I am told I don't make any sense when I say that my friends are just as important as my significant other... How you have described your personal experience resonated greatly...thank you kindly...

I'm so glad you made this video, it's actually amusing (and annoying at the same time) when people make that assumption because I become super committed, super fast, just in a platonic way. I'm like a platonic yandere minus the jealousy and possessiveness.

idk if this is the right place but you are the most recent comment here and i don't wanna ask the reddit folks. i really like a girl(she doesn't know i do) and she told she thinks she is romantic and she finds all things romantic people find normal very weird. idk if i should maybe try to talk about how i feel with her or just straight give up.idk i asked here bc i just found out about it and i'm kinda desperate.

@@N.S.351 I'm not really sure I'm the one to give advice, I apologize for not being much help. I only discovered I'm aromantic this summer and I only came out this past week but I can share my experience. My boyfriend has been so amazing and supportive, listening to me and understanding that I'm not all that affectionate and the most romantic thing I've ever done is rip a weed out of the sidewalk and hand it to him, haha. Maybe just ask her questions but be open minded.

@JamieJenkins2001 I’ll try my best and see where things go. Thanks a lot really appreciated for even responding to me. I just found out yesterday so it hit me very hard so I wasn’t in my right mind when even commented here.I wish you the best of luck with your relationship too.

thanks for sharing this, it's also really confusing to me what the difference between having a really close best friend and a romantic partner besides the stuff you always see on tv because i've just never felt some of that stuff and didn't know (and was a little in denial) that it wasn't there. accepting that it doesn't need to be has really, paradoxically, helped clear up that confusion.

I thought I had a bf until he told me that he has no romantic attraction to me nor to any person before. he told me that after I spent 6 months exclusive with him putting a lot of effort and time in the hope he loves me back as I do. I felt rejected, I felt used. I want all aromantic people who has only sexual attraction should reveal that in the first place in their bio or something when they use dating apps otherwise there will be many romantic people who get hurt after spending time and effort to build a relationship alone. I am leaning about aromanticism to understand him better but probably its not even rewarding....(broken heart)

I'm alloromantic, but it isn't that hard to understand that aromantic people are just living their lives peacefully. Even if they were "afraid of commitment", so what?

What is amatopunk (I'm not googling bc asking a person who has this identity will probably be more accurate)

You cant become aromantic if you had romantic attractions before there was nothing like these stereotypes in the past generations no offense but this is mental coding
@fluentlyaspec
@fluentlyaspec 6 ай бұрын
Sure you can. Identity can be fluid, and there are examples of folks who may have experienced romantic attraction at some point. Aroflux or arospike folks for instance fluctuate in their experiences. Comparing to past generations is not a very accurate comparison because the term’s earliest recorded uses can only be traced back to AVEN in 2002. It didn’t reach the general public until much later, and even now it is far less known than many other identities but is gaining mainstream attention, which by default means stereotypes are going to become more likely with an increased sample size of potential arophobic people to create them.
