there is a new book out over the summer called: This is the voice" by: John Colapinto. He blew his voice out because he didn't understand how the vocal cords work and ignored it for a decade. they found a polyp on one cord causing his raspy voice. Anyway the book goes deep into the history of sound and how all species communicate. I've gotten through parts of it but the story about his voice loss was very interesting.
