I've watched soaps since I was 5, and I learned the right lessons from them. I learned not to lie, not to cheat, etc. etc....

I remember watching this live and I am so thankful seeing it again. So nice reliving a time when daytime dramas ruled the airwaves and not newscasts and chat shows. My goodness Victoria Wyndham is a stunningly beautiful woman. Nice to see a rare appearance by her along with all the veterans.

This whole interview is the reason why we appreciated the hell out of our veterans as a soap audience. Because when they spoke, we listened. They were bold and beautiful in their talent (all if not most established on the stage or screen), to offset the young faces and their restlessness. This was to be the natural progression of stories that had already been told for decades, how else are we to see change, hope, poetic justice? What would have spoken to me at the end of "All My Children", would have been Erica Kane's realization she didn't ever really need a man to make her happy, she had always had herself... OR instead of a character's trauma like Viki's on "One Life to Live", that was groundbreaking become a gimmick. Victoria (Wyndham, not Lord) was right... the youth of the writers think that's all we want to see tinged with solacious sex scenes - and it's not, it never was. Keep it adult, not adult-rated, but to the point that if it was a kid watching during the summer, they couldn't wait to grow up and be independent someday and marry someone dynamic.

It's sad to realize that Vicki Windham is the only one on the panel who is still with us.

My heart swelled a bit because all but Victoria are no longer with us. I've watched every single one of them at some point and I just want to wrap our veteran actors up in bubblewrap and keep them safe forever.😢

Funny how she was in her 40s and that was too old.

@@JenGCYYC I know, right! I kind of cringed at the way they framed the subject - because I think of all of them as TREMENDOUS. But "age positivity" wasn't a thing back then.

I don't rembember the Horton's having twin beds-but I remember Mike and Nancy Karr getting rid of their twin beds back in 1983. Vicky Wyndham is the only panelist still alive in 2023!

This boardcast may be nostalgic, but the opinions of the actors on the direction and content of daytime plots @ the time is absolutely relevant for todays soaps currently.

Helen Wagner was a TOTAL gem and a history-making daytime performer. Sad that she didn't quite make it to the very end of ATWT's long run. She passed away two months before the final episodes were taped. (In 2010!) I wrote to her in the early-1990s and got a wondrous, hand-written letter back. When I wrote her again, she replied in the same way again. Just a classy, savvy, bright person. It was great that she could sometimes take part in stories which concerned the young actors. In its hey-day, the writers used all generations to tell their tales. Later writers either lacked imagination or were steered to focus solely on the wildly overrated newbies. (I do have to laugh, though... my mother was always glued to "Another World" from the late-1960s on and she never got over Robin Strasser leaving the role of Rachel. Any time she did anything else, she'd see her and exclaim, "There's Rachel!" Poor Victoria had the role for SO MUCH LONGER, but my mother just could not accept that change....) 😉

When it comes to daytime viki whyndom...even in 2023 is the greta garbo of daytime!!! ...i recentley asked a you tube interviewer that interviews of hlen gallagher and whyndom would be gold...he said possibly gallagher but whyndom not going to happen he cant even find her lol

MacDonald Carey is probably rolling in his grave over the state of Days now. It couldn't be anymore removed from reality and core families.

I didn't really think of Victoria Wyndham as "over-the-hill" on AW. I guess it helped that most of my favorite characters were over the age of 40 ( Donna, Michael, Iris, Lucas, Mac, Carl).

Oddly, the whole basis of Y&R was to push the envelope and be more racy than the other soaps before and around that time.

The irony is that now soaps are bringing the veterans back (and giving them storylines) because the demographic has shifted. They've realized that the young people aren't watching because they have too many other options.
@acasburn14605 ай бұрын
Yeah but it’s not working and not the same….the writing,storylines , direction and cue music is really bad. Even though some of the original actors are still on the show I don’t watch any soaps. I would rather watch re runs on YT😛😉
@amiblueful5 ай бұрын
@@acasburn1460 I agree. I only catch glimpses of GH when I'm visiting my mom. The stories are far-fetched and boring at the same time. The actors seem like they're only going through motions. I miss the olden days when I was a child and watched soaps with my mom. Long arcs, believable plots, and great acting. All of that has been lost. (I have David Canary as Adam and Stuart Chandler on AMC in my mind right now. Tour de force.)

I thought in the 80's and 90's really showed off things and TV today is way more conservative... Thought VW was a bit off the top and looking at her Cue cards in her hand. Harding Lemay hated Jac Courtney for that reason but yet praised VW who im sorry is not a good actress. I have watched all the 70's, 80's, etc. and she constantly looked over or down to remember her lines. i loved how the host, when VW interrrupted her questions to the audience that she more less ignored her
