Being Young and Getting Old - September 28th 2024

Lk 9:43-45: “‘For your part, you must have these words constantly in your mind: ‘The Son of Man is going to be handed over into the power of men.’” Christ's way is the way of sacrifice, being "handed over". Today's first reading speaks to us of both youth and old age, two periods of life which we must sanctify. And “being handed over” also means accepting and sanctifying the loss of agency and independence which can come with old age.
