Dude thank you for helping spread the proper info on wolf hierarchy. As a dog trainer/animal control officer, the amount of people who believe that they need to be the "alpha" is ridiculous. Literally no one believes me when I tell them that not even wolves have an "alpha" based hierarchy. I wish I could hit subscribe again lol
@hlalakar41562 жыл бұрын
Another wolf myth was spread by the colossal fraud and hack, Farley Mowat. He wrote a piece of subpar fiction entitled "Never Cry Wolf", but it sold well and got turned into a movie because he claimed it was a true story. He claimed that wolves almost never kill deer, elk, or other large mammals, and instead live on large numbers of mice and other small animals. This is, of course, total bullshit.
@hayleybartek86432 жыл бұрын
"Not even wolves have an alpha based hierarchy" because they're all the same species and pups that refuse to listen can just get nipped or something. A pet owner biting their dog isn't going to fly.
@themaskedhobo2 жыл бұрын
A lot of the misinformation on Wolf pack structure has to do with their behavior in captivity. In the wild when there is a "disagreement" big enough for fighting, the younger wolf just leaves. In captivity that isn't an option. Wolves are similar enough to humans that in captivity they act more like a prison gang than a nuclear family ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I owned a wolf-dog a few years ago and honestly, she was the kindest, most well behaved pet I’ve ever had. Very interesting breed. She was so smart and so thoughtful. She couldn’t bark, so she’d just howl if she had something to say. Very much like a Husky does. But she needed to be free, not cooped up in a tiny apartment with me.

2 things. First off the segment on raccoons was very nice. Thank you for giving my species some positive representation. Second off, I've been within 15-30 feet of a black panther before. I took my dog into our backyard to let him do his nighttime ritual when he suddenly started carefully sprinting back up the hill. As soon as he got to the back porch (which is about 5 feet off the ground and where I was), he started pacing by the back door and trying to pull me inside. Being the dumb bitch I am, I didn't take the hint and instead decided to turn on my phone's flashlight and investigate. There was a full grown black panther just laying in my backyard about 15-30 feet away from me like shit was good. And when I shined the light on him, he just looked at me like "What do you want?" With that, I quickly got myself and the dog back inside.

Smart dog. And eventually, smart human. lol My mom had a dog she would take around the tennis court to play with balls that had gotten thrown over the fence. Her dog LOVED it, playing on the trail with the free toys. One day, my mom's dog absolutely REFUSED to go to the trail. He flipped and resisted and just was not having it. My mom found out that later that day, two bikers were attacked by a cougar further down the trail. California be weird. Dogs be smart.

tip for those camouflage pictures: the animal (or item) is normally located along the middle, the focused area (if there is unfocused area). Go slow.... there will be a break in the background pattern. Once you start to make out the break your brain will automatically be drawn to that spot even if you keep looking. Hammer head sharks may be the shark with the most cheat codes unlocked, but the bull sharks are one of the final bosses. Able to traverse both salt AND fresh water? You dead for sure if one decides it doesn't like you. And they're aggressive too, while hammer heads, I believe, are more docile and only attack if threatened or if you get to close to a moms pups.

My uncle actually had a half-wolf half-german shepherd dog. He had saved him cuz he was gonna be put down at a shelter, and no one wanted him cuz half-wolf and he looked it as well. Since we lived together when I was growing up, I was around him all the time. He loved playing hide and seek with me, and I distinctly remember hiding under a chair when I was about 2-3 while he, 110lb of buff and fluff, came running in to find me. He also slept with me in my low crib/pack-and-play every night. I loved that dog. I'm not saying that all half-wolf dogs are as kind and gentle and fiercely loyal as he was, but he was for sure. Side note: Also had a pure bred pitbull at the time who thought he was a lap dog. And let me tell you, out of a half-wolf and a pitbull, I can safely say that my other uncle's 15lb house cat was the most scary/intolerant of my presence. The cat vibe-checked everyone and everything that wasn't my uncle, including both dogs xD

I once pulled into my driveway at night to find a creature sleeping in a branch right outside my living room window. I sat there, watching the animal in the beam of my headlights as it climbed down and realized that this was a full grown coyote who had been sleeping on a branch. A branch about 12 feet above the ground.

True story. I heard noises out on my back patio about 1 A.M. on a very hot Texas night last summer. When I pulled the blinds of the sliding glass doors to peak out, I saw two raccoons. They had broken into the shelving unit and dragged out a ten Lb bag of mixed bird seed with sunflower seeds. They were grabbing handfuls of the stuff and tossing it around like freaking popcorn. Partly eating and partly just throwing it. The raccoons looked like they were having the time of their lives! The patio was wrecked. I live in Texas by a lake and see lots of critters but the raccoon frat party was a first.

We rescued two wolf dog puppies (Half lab, half wolf) when we had a pure bread beagle, they were scared of her, and now I'm convinced it's because she was so old, she was 18 when she died! They were excellent pets and loving and also extremely dangerous and NOT meant for ppl who can't devote their lives to them. They're gone now, and had a good and happy home and lives, but had we been aware of how much effort and care it took to have them as pets, we probably would've moved to a bigger area, but in the end they had a big yard and an old beagle that taught them how to live and love gently. Do not get wolf dogs as pets. Love them from afar or a be an enclosure or propped owner.

I've painted pictures of *Snow Leopards* (based on photos & videos) & while their fur is a gorgeous montage of colours (such as matte black, snow white, pale-brown & yellow-gold), it's those exquisitely arresting eyes which really grab your attention. As kittens, their round-pupiled eyes are an astonishingly saturated Aquamarine blue, which deepens as they age into a more Cerulean blue, with some desaturating into more of a blue-grey hue. Seriously, their intelligence shines through so hard from their vividly BLUE eyes, that when they stare at you, it's like you forget how to breathe for a minute...
