Beinn Bhuidhe

An ascent of Beinn Bhuidhe 948m (3110ft)
Starting at the walker's car park at the end of Loch Fyne, I cycled along the access road to the Deer gate where I parked the bike. From here it's around a 1.75km walk to the start of the ascent. The going from here was quite tough and difficult at places. This was mainly due to the overgrown foliage making it difficult to pass through. Heading up the gorge on the left side (South West) a small scramble is reached. This is detailed as a tricky scramble. I can imagine in the wet this being the case but on a dry day like today, there was no issues. It's only around 10ft high so no real drama. Once clear of the gorge you cross an access road and start ascending through some boggy ground. The path is still fairly easy to follow but can get quite wet underfoot. At the end of the short plateau a steep ascent onto the ridge is next, this can be quite demanding but if time is taken there shouldn't be too many issues. Not long after this ascent do you gain the ridge and make the short(fish) walk to the summit.
The views from the summit are breathtaking and on a clear day, I imagine there isn't much you won't see! There is a lovely spot to have lunch or even a small grass patch where a 2-man tent would easily fit, if a summit camp was on your agenda.
The descent starts by retracing your steps down the ridge and along the plateau to the access road we crossed earlier. There is another route of descent using a pathless grass route on the other side of the gorge (North East). I would recommend giving this a go as the descent I used on the day wasn't great. Speaking of which. I chose to be lazy and take the access road down. Knowing fine well I'd need to back track 2+ km at the bottom to collect the bike I still believed this would be quicker. Now, I'm not so sure. The road down is easy underfoot if fairly steep in places, but it's long and not very exciting. On a plus note, this does afford you the opportunity to take in more of the views which are outstanding the whole way down.
Once down, I back tracked to collect the bike, which was fortunately still there. A fairly speedy cycle back to the car and and homeward bound after a very long day. Walking distance was a total of 17km and 13km of biking.
All in all it was a long arduous hike, with the weather being in the high 20's it made for a difficult dimension to the hike. As for scenery and grandeur, there was plenty of that!
On a side not, my wedding ring was on my bedside table! Doh!!!!!!!!

Seems like a great one to do.. have always noticed Beinn Bhuidhe on its own in the munro maps and have done most nearest to it except the Ben Lui two and those around Ben Cruachan.. will try get this ticked off when the better weather comes in.. not sure i’d fancy the cycle in the snow.. if it ever comes 😂
